CiCi’s Pizza Party and Jam

                                  CiCi’s Pizza  Party and Jam

Come join us Friday evening, August 8th from 9pm - 1am

CiCi’s Pizza in Round Rock has graciously offered our group the full use of their restaurant ... after hours!

The cost is only $6.00 pp for all you can eat special order pizza, deserts and soda.

We’ll have both a group Jam and an open mic.

This is a fantastic opportunity to hang out, get to know other members, eat some tasty pizza and have some fun.

There are plenty of power outlets so feel free to bring an electric instrument.

Please rsvp as the restaurant needs to know how many will be attending.

This is a 'pay-at-the door' private event sponsored by CiCi’s.

Please let me know if anyone has a PA and mic you'd be willing to bring.

Thanks for for the music, everybody - it was fun. We had slower stretches but also few moments when all instruments were on same wavelength - these little moments of magic are what jamming is all about for me.
If we were to play again (and I hope we will) lets lay some ground rules :
    1. Lets have a list of songs (possibly with keys) agreed before the jam - we do not have to follow that list strictly but at the very least we will have core 6-8 songs we all come prepared to play.
    2. If somebody calls the song let them teach it to us - everybody goes quiet - we listen to chords - if not obvious then lets spell out the names. Then go through it few times with everybody noodling - trying to find the scales/chords etc. Then we do clean take.
    3. Lets be sonically nice. If I bring 20W tube amp I will kill 5W MicroCube all the time. So lets keep level down so nobody is drowned out. Maybe also sit closer - so there is better communication in the band.

      4. Lets try to avoid noodling between takes - either we do a specific song that is called or we talk. And it is hard to talk when 3 people are trying 3 different ideas in the background.
      5. As far as solos. Lets have some order. One person at the time. No soloing over vocals. One chorus per song so everything is tight. And everybody else is supporting soloist. If it is quieter instrument then lets lower overall volume to allow them some range of expression. Well that is about it. Did not mean to step on anybody's toes - as I said it was fun with uppercase F.

Last but not least (and I promise not to rant anymore). I honestly have very limited interest in "reproducing" songs in somewhat approximate manner. And I am not Stevie, Eric or Ritchie - I can only butcher the song if I try to play it their way. But if we could take say "Smoke On The Water" and make eg. bossa nova number out of it I'd say "awesome - sign me up!" - that is what I am looking for.

This was probably one of the best, if not 'the' best Jams we've ever had. We met up around 9, ate and visited for about an hour. Once the restaurant closed we set everything up and jammed for two and a half hours without taking a break. The atmosphere was relaxed, and informal. Everyone was friendly and seemed to get along.

For a bunch of guys who have never really played together, we were pretty tight ... only wish I would have made a recording. The music sounded great.

I had a fun time and I think everyone else did too. It was very entertaining and I look forward to scheduling another one next month.

Be sure to check out the photos.
