Echo Ensemble Austin will be presenting an abridged, semi-staged concert version of Handel's most popular opera, Giulio Cesare in Egitto. Handel's score brings to life the classic tale of Julius Caesar and the cunning Cleopatra, who struggle to reign over Egypt against Cleopatra's brother Tolomeo and the general Achilla. On Caesar's side of this political war, we have Sesto, who, along with his mother Cornelia, seeks vengeance and justice for Tolomeo's murder of his father Pompey. Handel's music takes us through a colorful journey, allowing us to profoundly experience the moments of comedy, seduction, anger, devastation, and triumph that make up this dynamic plot.
