What Herb M. is saying about this Meetup Group

You don't pick your mugger; your mugger picks you! This means that no matter how big, strong, or skilled you are, criminals are arranging to have an advantage -- in the moment of the attack your mugger is totally convinced that he will not only deprive you of your valuables (or worse) but he will do so without injury. Were this not true he would bring (more) friends, have additional weapons, or would use more extreme violence, etc. We may not pick our mugger but we can reduce the odds that he will pick us. Failing that, we can also increase our chances of proving his "victim selection" skills are in great need of improvement... Studies have shown that just teaching women (who had even previously been victimized) how to walk and what body language to express will reduce their chances of being victimized again. We are steadily making progress -- improvement requires practice.
