FW: [The-Austin-Doctor-Who-Meetup] Updated Schedule for the Feb 6th Meetup

From: Johann

Hello fellow Geeks and Gamers!

For anybody planning on joining us for the February 6 “Doctor Who” event at the VFW, here are more details on what will be happening (courtesy of Richard, the Organizer for the Doctor Who meetup):

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to make sure everyone was informed of our Feb 6th Saturday schedule at the VFW for the Classic Who/Geeks & Gamers meetup.  Come all day or for your favorite show.  Marvin has been testing the new huge video screen and Bose sound system so I'm looking forward to trying it out.  I wanted to provide show descriptions but the meetup announcement was too cluttered already so instead, here it is:

(All shows are movie-versions)

12N - 1:35 pm
INVISIBLE ENEMY - CGI version (1977) A malevolent virus infects an Earth spaceship then the Doctor (Tom Baker) as it seeks a place to spawn.  Prof. Marius and his robot dog K-9 try to treat the infection as it spreads to the entire hospital. Microscopic clones of the Doctor and Leela must enter the Doctor's brain to fight it.  Sorry, no Raquel Welch.  Introduces K-9 to the series, who even today remains a fan-favorite. (with computer-generated SFX)

1:35 - 3:10 pm
TIME-FLIGHT (1982) Still mourning the loss of Adric, The Doctor (Peter Davison) and crew land in at Heathrow airport and are enlisted to help track down a missing Concorde airplane but end up 140 million years in the past.  Who is this mysterious oriental figure Kalid and why has he brought them there?

2 - 6 pm
Gaming tables will be open for all guests. Johann and Marvin will have some available or bring your own!

3:10 - 4:45 pm
BATTLEFIELD (1989) Answering a distress call, the Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) and Ace land at Lake Vortigern in England near a UNIT nuclear missile convoy.  They are soon to be caught in a crossfire between 2 groups of knights with swords and futuristic weapons.  Why do they keep calling him Merlin?  Nick Courtney's last appearance as the Brig in the classic series.  Jean Marsh returns to guest star after 20+ years (This is the one famous for Sophie Aldred's (Ace) nearly-tragic accident on the set during a water tank failure).

4:45 - 5:30 pm
FIRES OF POMPEII (2008) "Who frowned this face?"  A question the 12th Doctor asked himself very recently.  Find out who in this 4th Series episode with David Tennent and Catherine Tate as they visit Pompeii the day before the famous eruption.  Under Pompeii itself, beings from a world that has been lost are trying to start anew using the power of the volcano, thus altering history and the fate of humanity.  Why are some people slowly turning to stone?  And what's the source of the soothsayers' new-found ability for precise prophesy which fortells no eruption?  And is that Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) as one of the soothsayers?

30 Minute break between 5:30 and 6 pm.  Order up a beer and meet you fellow Who/Geek Meetup members!

6 - 7:30 pm
LOGOPOLIS (1981) "I'm going to stop him if it's the last thing I do."  In this 2nd of what's effectively a 3-part arc, the 4th Doctor (Tom Baker) and Adric return to Earth to repair the TARDIS chameleon circuit only to find a trap waiting for him.  Meanwhile a noisy airline hostess seems to have wandered aboard as a somewhat sinister-looking white wraith watches from a distance.  Journeying to Logopolis to finish the TARDIS repairs, they are joined by Nyssa of Traken who is unaware that the Master has usurped her father's body.  As the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, Nyssa, Tegan, and Adric watch as the 4th Doctor and the Master have their final encounter at the Pharos Project on Earth.

Costume Contest will be held during a brief break between the evening shows.

7:40 - 9:10 pm
CASTROVALVA (1982) "The regeneration is failing..."  With the 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) still weak from his recent regeneration, the TARDIS is headed towards the largest explosion of all time.  Meanwhile, where is Adric?  It seems the Master (as devious as ever) has even further plans for the Doctor's destruction.  The crew manage to journey to Castrovalva to complete the Doctor's healing process only to find that all there is not as it seems.

I hope everyone likes the mix of shows I've prepared.  See everyone soon!

Richard
