Hello my fellow geeks and gamers!

My apologies for the nagging … I mean reminder email I sent out a couple weeks ago regarding our fund drive. However, I am glad to say that it worked! We have raised $707 for the Austin Geeks and Gamers meetup fund. Almost $200 of that will go to pay the dues that meetup charges us for all the services of their site. However, that still leaves us with a working fund of over $500 to use for food, drinks, room rentals, door prizes, etc. for such special events as the “Night of 3000 Geeks”. (FYI - right now, we have 3,334 members, so we are well on our way to the “Night of 4000 Geeks” party!)

Thanks for all your support. I look forward to seeing y’all at a meetup event soon.

Excelsior!

Hello my fellow geeks and gamers!

I just wanted to update you on our meetup fund drive. I sent out the fund drive announcement last weekend, and since then we have received only 4 donations, totaling less than $100. I have to admit to being disappointed. We have over 3200 members, and we host over two dozen events every month. I hope that this meetup is at least as valuable to you as a Taco Supreme Value Meal.

So, I am reluctantly asking a second time for you to help support our meetup, so we can continue building our community of Geeks and Gamers.

There are two ways to donate to our group. Meetup has a built-in donation page at https://secure.meetup.com/AustinGeeksandGamers/contribute/ . You can go there easily and just specify how much you want to chip in.

Or, if you use PayPal, you can make a personal (friends and family) donation to [address removed] . The advantage of a personal PayPal transfer is that the entire amount goes to our account, without Meetup taking a cut.

Whether or not you contribute, I look forward to seeing all of you at an upcoming event soon. Thanks for being a member of our meetup community, and thanks for your support!

Excelsior!

Subject: [AustinGeeksAndGamers] Austin Geeks and Gamers - Support our Meetup!

Hello my fellow geeks and gamers!

My how we have grown! When I took over the reins of our meetup group, we had less than 50 members and scheduled one or two events a month. Now, we are now a community of over 3200 members, with events scheduled for almost every day of the week!

All that growth comes with a price, though. Organizing this many events takes hours of time from myself and over 20 other event organizers. And it takes money, for not only the dues that meetup.com charges us, but also for venue space, event prizes, food, drinks, etc. for many of our events.

So, I am doing our first ever (and hopefully no more than annual), fund drive to support our Austin Geeks and Gamers meetup group. If you have found that being a part of our geek community has brought enjoyment to your life, I ask you to pitch in just a little. Consider if you will…

-        If being part of Austin Geeks and Gamers has brought you as much enjoyment as a fast-food meal, consider donating $10.

-        If it has brought you as much enjoyment as going out to see a movie (with popcorn and soda), consider donating $25.

-        If it has brought you as much enjoyment as a new board game, consider donating $50.

If you can’t honestly say it has been worth the price of a Taco Supreme Value Meal, then please take the time to drop me an email ([address removed]) and let me know how I can make our meetup worthwhile for you. Seriously – I want the Austin Geeks and Gamers community to be a valuable part of your life!
