Austin Geeks and Gamers - August Newsletter

Howdy my fellow geeks and gamers!

Welcome to our August newsletter. July was plenty busy, including a movie night for “Spider-Man: Homecoming", a home showing of cult classics "Buckaroo Banzai" and "Big Trouble in Little China", and the first birthday party for Nerdstock Gaming Center. I must say, this has been an amazing year for comic book movies. In the last year, we have enjoyed “Dr. Strange”, “Logan”, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”, “Wonder Woman” and “Spider-Man” - all phenomenal films with strong writing, acting, and direction. Heck, even “Lego Batman” was great, goofy fun!

Our August calendar has even more fun in store for you:
• The "AnimeCTX Mixer" hosted by NexCrew at Pinballz Lakeline this Thursday, August 3.
• “Board Game Bash”, Austin’s biggest and best board game convention, this weekend, August 4-6, at the Austin Marriott South.
• "The “ACT-W Conference : Advancing the Careers of Technical Women” also this weekend, at the Norris Conference Center.
• The “Unexpected Heroes” Anime Party at Tobias’s home, Saturday, August 12.
.… plus our regular Werewolf games, Sunday “Magic: The Gathering” games, Nerd Nite, “Geeks Who Drink” pub quiz at Mister Tramps, and board game night at Wonko’s.

I would like to officially welcome “Mothership Books and Games” as our newest meetup sponsor. I say “officially” because Mothership has been one of our greatest unofficial partners for many months, hosting an open board game night for us every Friday. Mothership is not only a wonderful board game store, they are Austin’s premier PC/LAN Center. If you want to enjoy “League of Legends”, "EVE Online”, “Overwatch”, “Skyrim” or dozens of other online games, on high-performance PC’s, in swanky command chairs, then Mothership is the place for you!

Finally, I want to offer my sincere thanks to everybody who contributed to our annual meetup fund drive. Thanks to your generous donations, we raised over $750 to pay for our dues, plus give us plenty of funds to spend on special events, food, and prizes. I really appreciate the generosity of our entire geeky community.

Remember - If you really want to stay up to date, join our ongoing discussions and posts in our Facebook group, at . Or just check the meetup calendar at . I hope to see you at an event soon. Until then…
