Austin Geeks and Gamers - October Newsletter

From: Johann

Howdy my fellow geeks and gamers!

Welcome to our October newsletter. October is my favorite month of the year, because it has my favorite holiday, Halloween. It’s when we get to pretend we are monsters, wizards, superheroes, pirates, space captains, evil villains, and so many other fantasy characters. Though for most of us geeks, that is really any day of the year. Who needs an excuse for cosplay?

In September, we got to share:
• Our September “Laid Back Social” at Mozart’s, which had a great turnout of new members.
• “Unexpected Heroes – Part 2” Anime Party at Tobias’s home, Saturday, September 9.
• Dragon’s Lair’s 31st Anniversary Celebration. I wonder how many of the employees there were not even born when Dragon’s Lair first opened 31 years ago.
• “Pirate Booty Burlesque – Hurricane Relief Fundraiser” at Sherlock’s.

For October, I have one particular event to highlight for you. I may be biased, since I have been a cast member since its inception over ten years ago, but I want to encourage each and every one of you to go to this year’s Scare for a Cure adventure, “Return to Mutant Wasteland.” Scare for a Cure is a once-in-a-lifetime experience - part haunted house, part live-action role-playing game, part escape room, part improv theater. Your party of up to six players will spend 45 minutes to an hour in a terrifying, live, interactive adventure. And all the money goes to a great cause - The Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin.

I have scheduled a meetup event for us to go as a group on Saturday, October 14 (https://www.meetup.com/AustinGeeksandGamers/events/243449340/ ). But if you can’t join us that night, pick any of the other nine nights that it is running. Scare for a Cure is a truly unforgettable interactive adventure, and you will be benefitting a great cause at the same time. For more details, visit their site at http://www.scareforacure.org/ .

In addition to Scare for a Cure, please join us for:

• Our October Social at Pinballz Lake Creek this Wednesday, October 4.
• “Geekgasm Revue and the Chamber of Sequins”, Russ Argo’s Harry Potter themed nerdlesque at Sherlock’s on Tuesday, October 17
• “Game for the Cause”, on Friday and Saturday, October 20-21, raising money for SafePlace.

Please welcome The Microsoft Store at the Domain as our newest meetup sponsor. In addition to being a great spot to learn about all things Microsoft, they are working hard to make their store a community hub for all gamers and tech geeks.

Remember - If you really want to stay up to date, join our ongoing discussions and posts in our Facebook group, at https://www.facebook.com/groups/AustinGeeksAndGamers/ Or just check the meetup calendar at https://www.meetup.com/AustinGeeksandGamers/ . I hope to see you at an event soon. Until then…

Excelsior!!
