Leaving ordinary time and entering sacred time, Holotropic BreathworkTM combines deep and rapid breathing, evocative music, focused energy release work, integrative artwork, and group process to enter and explore non-ordinary states of consciousness, allowing access to both personal and transpersonal experiences that facilitate deep healing of our body-mind-hearts, and opening to the truth of our interconnectedness in the great Web of Life.
Holotropic BreathworkTM is experienced in dyads, so you will have the opportunity to witness and support another person in his or her inner journey, and receive the same for yourself. This “sitting” for your partner can be a profound teaching about the true nature of helping. For some people, the sitting experience is filled with as much emotion, insight, and self-discovery as the breathing experience. You do not need to register with a partner, although some people do.
Christine Calvert is a licensed chemical dependency counselor and spent almost 6 years training to be certified in Holotropic BreathworkTM by Grof Transpersonal Training. She works at an alcohol and drug treatment facility where the integration of the 12 steps, spiritual disciplines, and experiential healings are taught and implemented. Along with training in mindfulness meditation, and other experiential modalities of healing, she has a passion for supporting people on their journey towards wholeness.
Tian Lewis, LVN, is a licensed vocational nurse, and has been practicing Holotropic Breathwork with Grof Transpersonal Training for the past few years. She has found this to be an instrumental piece of her journey towards healing. Her dream is to integrate holistic healing with spirituality and to help people find the support needed for their healing work.
The cost is $145 for both days. We ask each participant to bring a lunch on Saturday. The workshop will be limited to 18 people, and a check or money order will reserve your place. Checks will not be cashed until the week of the workshop. You can also pay using paypal (see below). A confirmation letter will be emailed to you with directions and details about what to bring. If you need to work out a payment plan, please contact Christine Calvert.
Full refund if you telephone to cancel 2 weeks before the start of the workshop, refund of half of your registration if you call one week before, after that I will not be able to offer a refund.
Friday evening will open with a circle to create the intention and the environment including introductions, discussion of Stan Grof’s map of the unconscious (to provide the big picture of what you might experience), discussion of the Breathwork procedure, and the role of the sitter. Together we will “weave the basket” that will support and contain your experience. You will also choose a partner for the breathing. This is not a residential workshop, so you will return home or to local lodging for the night.
On Saturday, we will return to the circle to acknowledge our intentions, gather our energy, and reconnect with one another. Our time together will flow between the personal and the transpersonal, inner and outer attention, and the individual and the group. There will be two breathing sessions, each lasting approximately 21⁄2 hours, with lunch in between. We will close the day by returning to our circle—to give voice to our experiences and cross the threshold from the Hero's Journey back into the world of everyday life, transitioning from the holotropic reality to the hylotropic (everyday) reality.
The workshop will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church on 4301 N. I-35 Austin, TX 78722.
Holotropic Breathwork opens the door to a wide range of physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences, which cannot be predicted in advance. These conditions include pregnancy, serious heart conditions (history of heart attacks, cardio-surgery, cerebral hemorrhage, hypertension, high blood pressure, etc.), epilepsy, glaucoma, retinal detachment, history of severe mental or emotional disorders, acute infectious disease and recent injury or surgery.
If you have questions about the contraindications, the refund policy or the Breathwork in general, please feel free to call Christine Calvert at[masked], or e-mail at [masked]
Your presence for the entire time on both days is required for your benefit and the benefit of the group. The integration time at the end of Saturday is important for a smooth transition to the outer world. In order to allow yourself maximum permission to dive in deeply, it is advisable to avoid making social plans for Saturday after the workshop. Because this is an opening experience, a continuation of insights, feelings and awareness often occurs during the days following the workshop. If possible, let Sunday to be a day of rest and relaxation, creative expression, and contact with nature or people who support you in your exploration of non-ordinary states of consciousness.
