The 25th Annual Chuy's Children Giving to Children Parade, benefiting Operation Blue in Downtown Austin. The parade highlights include awesome marching bands, giants inflatable balloons, festive floats with music, including The Biscuit Brothers. Parade attendees are invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Blue Santa.
The parade starts at the State Capitol at 11:00 am and marches south on Congress to Lady Bird Lake ending at Cesar Chavez. At a certain time the parade stops and “Santa’s helpers” collect the toys and fill the backs of designated trucks. Children of all ages bring dolls, trucks, games, basketballs, teddy bears, etc. and donate their new toys to the Blue Santa Program. Hence the name “Children Giving to Children Parade”. Operation Blue Santa distributes the toys in time for the holidays, bringing Christmas magic to children that otherwise might not receive any gifts.
This is a non- hosted event, as I’ll be involved with parade set up, managing a balloon team, and take down. As there are so many people in Meet Up that are new to Austin I’m posting this as an opportunity for everyone to experience an awesome Austin tradition and a cool parade benefiting a good cause. So anyone is welcome to step up and offer to be a point of contact pick a corner to meet on (for example 10th & Congress) Or say Hey let's meet a bar for a drink afterwards.
Parking: Anywhere you can find a spot within a few blocks of Congress Ave! Lots of people attend so expect to walk a few blocks and get there by 10:30 to give yourself time to park and find a spot to watch. One recommended option is to park in the State parking garages off Trinity near 14th St., then walk over to Congress and 11th St., then down Congress Ave. til you find a good spot.
