• Open Topic Meeting - Bring Toys + Another MQTT Demo

    Westchester Library - Board Room

This Meeting: Signup for these meetings is not required. Normal attendance varies, but there is always a group there with demo's at most of the meetings ... and lively impromptu pre meeting discussions from 5-5:30. The formal process begins around 5:30 and turns into and interactive open forum if time allows before 7:00. OPEN TOPIC MEETING - BRING TOYS This is our FUN meeting. You do not have to be a member to participate. We encourage late arrival/early departure (people have lives). No specific subject has been select (yet). This is open forum style. Each attendee is offered time to show their Automation Technology toy (Scope, Robot, Electronic Widget, Camera etc). If your toy needs more than 10 minutes to show, you may want to schedule a meeting to so we can properly promote it (sharing is our mail reason for being). Updated MQTT display. learned a few new tricks that might be of interest to the group. (Including using SPIFFS for a quick configuration file, and using ArduinoOTA for updating devices over the air), It should be a quick demo, so others are encouraged to bring in some of their toys. GrandPooBah Although GrandPooBah is a wonderful guy, and the members love to hear him talk about myself. This meeting is not about him!!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Our objective is to be a resource for people that enjoy technologies of any kind. Today there is an amazing amount of information available. We want to facilitate/mentor those that have a thirst for knowledge (and enjoy the process). Membership is open to all and free. Members are offered our entire library of learning materials. We have a broad series of subjects we have had fun with including Op-amps, (We built our own 3 mode controller), NE555 circuits (timers, drives etc), stepper motor controls (built our own controller), drives (Built our own DC drive), transistor theory, Electricity and more. We encourage questions about any subject and help direct members to appropriate materials or training. We regularly encourage/supplement self training and seek facilitators.

Low Energy Presence Detection System Beacon Presence Detector System I while ago I presented my over-all Internet of Things (IoT) project which encompassed from devices (things) to the analytic cloud-based system (Microsoft Azure). This week we will take a deep dive into the Beacon presence detector subsystem. We will check out how an off-the-shelf beacon can be used to identify individuals as they enter and exit a space. The solution utilizes Bluetooth Low Energy beacon, Raspberry Pi-s. MQTT Broker, Emic2 Text-to-Speech Processor, ESP8266, etc… GrandPooBah Although GrandPooBah is a wonderful guy, and the members love to hear him talk about myself. This meeting is not about him!!!! Westchester Library - Board Room

The formal process begins around 5:30 and turns into and interactive open forum if time allows before 7:00. Wifi, Lora, 433mhz, 915mhz, 2.4Ghz Mesh Network Demos In this demo we will be doing some limited range testing inside the library - a lot of the library is open, but there are also a lot of metal shelves, books and other objects. It should be a good test. For the most part all we are doing is going to be blinking an LED, someone will go out in the library hit the button on the transmitter, and if a LED lights up, we will be able to relay the information back. The LoRa demo is a little different as we will be sending the temperature. There are 5 different "modes" - LoRa 915Mhz (RFM9x/SX127x multi-mode, we are using LoRa), ESP8266 WiFi Mesh (2.4Ghz), nRF24L01 (FSK 2.4Ghz), FS1000A (ASK 433Mhz), and finally a Moteino board with a RFM12B chip (915Mhz, multi-mode we are using FSK) The RFM12B is now retired and have been replaced by the RFM69 - I have had these Moteino boards and have never used them and thought now would be a good time. GrandPooBah Although I am a wonderful guy, and the members love to hear me talk about myself this meeting is not about me!! (although I tend to be reminded of this every meeting for some reason).
