What we're about

We are a group of people from around Melbourne who are interested in building autonomous vehicles. Specifically our initial goal is to build 1/16 scale self-driving cars (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UXoIuhk2cU) that are capable of racing autonomously around a track. Although all types of autonomous vehicle builders are welcome to join in.

This group comes from a diverse background representing interests in engineering, programming, computer vision, AI, machine learning and robotics. However, a key aim is to help newcomers of all ages get into these emerging technologies and just have some fun.

If you're interested in building a self driving vehicle and taking it to a track to test it out, then this is where you want to be. We'll conduct build workshops at HackerSpaces / MakerSpaces around Melbourne and regional Victoria ... and then hold regular track days as we get underway.

Inspired by DIYRoboCars (https://diyrobocars.com) and aiming for competitive track days (https://diyrobocars.com/2017/07/19/roll-your-own-local-diy-robocars-group), like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfwq73D7oHg) !

Self-driving car build workshop: DIYRoboCar / DonkeyCar

*The cost includes:* - Full day workshop with experienced people to take you through building the car, acquiring data, training and self-driving - All parts necessary to build the DonkeyCar - 2-month membership for CCHS (Hawthorn HackerSpace) or Make/Create (Brunswick MakerSpace), so you can continue to engage with the community and work on your car at all subsequent meetings. As well as engaging with super-helpful experts in Machine Learning, robotics, 3D printing, laser-cutting, CnC milling, IoT, microcontrollers and electronics engineering *Prerequisites:* - Laptop - Smartphone - Cursory familiarity with: http://www.openhardwareconf.org/wiki/Donkey_Car http://www.openhardwareconf.org/wiki/OHMC2019_Software_instructions - Please try to install the software in *Software installation: Laptop / Desktop* section of Software Instructions on your laptop in advance Please be on-time, so that we can start promptly together ... it will be a full day ! *Other meetings:* - Regular monthly track days for people with DIYRoboCars to compete and share knowledge - Regular fortnightly DIYRoboCar sessions for improving our cars, learn more about Machine Learning, mechanical and electronic engineering, software development and robotics

Monthly self-driving DIYRoboCar / DonkeyCar technical meet-up

Regular 3rd Wednesday of the month technical meet-up. If you are a newcomer and/or don't yet have a DonkeyCar (self-driving RC car), you are still very welcome. Each meeting we'll be improving our cars (all open design), including mechanical and electronics. As well as improving the software, e.g DonkeyCar and covering A.I / Machine Learning, e.g overview, training, self-driving and better techniques. Basically, getting ready to compete at the next monthly track day ! We hold regular build workshops, but if you can't wait ... there is a stock car Bill of Materials (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vS4dDVcc-XSizIfDcnYqrwnpr3s2C9YOatZ-NBpMu1980PFuvVG0G8UBcrAg2bCNygeN5uCzEMGMFT9/pubhtml) (thanks Mark Wolfe) ... and you end up with something like these (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UXoIuhk2cU). Whilst there is no charge for this meeting ... if you aren't a CCHS member, then a modest donation on the night would be greatly appreciated ... to help support the HackerSpace.
