LUV Yourself: Put Away The Razor - An Author Discusses Her Book, and how she moved from Suicidal Thoughts and Depression, to Happiness Advocacy.
L.U.V. Life at The Center - Each week participants join in Lifting Up Vegas with programs, talks, and workshops that inspire people to be compassionate towards themselves, the community, and the world.
There is no fee though we will be collecting a freewill offering since the center is providing the space for us and would like something for overhead/etc.
A word from the presenter, Alice Vo Edwards:
Do you or someone you know deal with or dealt with depression?
For those dealing with it - come and hear - let's support each other and remember we are not alone - and there is hope.
For those dealing with a friend or loved one who has depression and you're just not sure how to feel, how to be the support your friend or loved one really is, come hear my story.
Hi, my name's Alice. I am coming out of the closet and speaking up in support of those dealing with mental illnesses such as depression, suicidal thoughts, and bi-polar. I am not the only one who has struggle through healing herself after medical mis-diagnoses. I am not the only one who has lived through deep bouts of depression or who has ongoing struggles with depression that most of those who don't deal with it personally understand.
I wrote a book about it called "Put Away The Razor" under the pen name Carolee Kassman.
In this setting, we are not working with a therapist or a psychiatrist or psychologist - we will not diagnose or promise any cures.
But we will share our stories, our secrets, our pain, and vulnerabilities (or at least, I will, and I invite you to join me) so together we can rise and support each other on those days when the going gets tough.
Nevada has the #8th highest rate of suicides in the nation. To me, that means that many of our struggles are attributable to environmental/life factors other than purely our mental or physical or chemical balances, and we need to stay strong and work on identifying and fixing our environment to make ourselves more resilient and better able to weather emotional storms.
We'll talk about the flip side of depression, happiness, and how my focus on happiness has helped me move away a spirit of illness to a spirit of wellness, positivity, and wellbeing.
Please join me. I look forward to seeing you face to face.
