Monday Night Main Event: Introduction to Plant Spirit Medicine with Kat Brown

After two weeks of some very focused and intense work with her teachers in the forests of Oregon, Kat Brown is back to share her knowledge and wisdom about Plant Spirit Medicine. Kat came to our community in early 2009 with a good amount of experience working on herself in the Peruvian jungles; she was facilitating a meeting on South American Shamanism when we first met leading to our marriage. Blending her lifelong experience with Astrology and Tarot and applying lessons she learned from Bhagavan Sri Pranananda, she joined our community and along with the Awareness Group and the Sangha families, she has built a sizable community of people who live or augment their life with plant spirit medicine.

In[masked] Kat attended a year-long Plant Spirit Medicine apprenticeship in New Mexico where she learned to tune into the spirit of plants. Having no connection with plants or gardening before, there are none more surprised than herself that she's now the one who can talk to plants. She has since been making her own tinctures, salves, decoctions, and related medicines, as well as working with various plant spirits to facilitate healing and awakenings.

In "Introduction to Plant Spirit Medicine", Kat will discuss a full range of subjects that she about her experiences thus far. Topics include:

  • how to tune into a plant's spirit
  • how to use a plant's spirit to get the most help from the plant
  • how to create tinctures as an alternative to many pharmacological solutions
  • how to incorporate plant spirit medicine into your inner journeying
  • visits and ceremonies in sacred sites throughout the world, especially Peru
  • nature walks for experiential understanding
  • exploring the various aspects and expressions of shamanism
  • discuss how exploring these topics helps you develop a more complete and accurate understanding of your self and the world around you
  • developing a tangible bond with nature, and the related benefits
  • using plant spirits as allies

Kat's knowledge is much more experiential, coming from an intuitive heart space, augmented with a little book-knowledge. Other practitioners have access to vast intellectual information and even a functional understanding of the practical application, but have very little experience in applying their knowledge. This group is intended to bring both of these archetypes and all those in-between to come and share their form of wisdom. In doing so, those with intuition can expand their capability by expanding their intellectual understanding. Over time, those who are already in tune with plant energetics can rub off on the intellects, enabling them to tune into a sense that is already there but is merely as yet unrecognized.

Tonight's Main Event will be a discussion about how we can use Hollywood movies and Fiction, especially Science Fiction, as tools to help us expand our awareness, facilitating our awakening consciousness. We have discussed a number of movies over the last few years including Inception, The 13th Floor, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, and Vanilla Sky. Perhaps most memorably, we have thoroughly discussed the entire Matrix saga as a metaphor for awakening and enlightenment, exploring the myriad themes of Buddhism, Christianity, Taoism, Hinduism and the Vedas, and Existentialism. We haven't even begun to explore the work of JRR Tolkein as a group...

  • Tonight we'll discuss a number of movies and books that we find we are constantly referring to in our daily lives. We'll share how we go about recognizing these metaphors and how we use them to learn vicariously through author's "imagination," become more aware of ourselves and our surrounding, and save ourselves from repeated suffering by recognizing and releasing patterns in our conditioning.

This event is at Unity Center in the Valley. The After Meeting at Bodhimandala begins at 8:30.

The Awareness & Consciousness Group of Southern Nevada has resumed its Monday Nights starting May 27th. Each Monday a Main Event is held at the Unity Center in the Valley (Warm Springs west of Pecos) from 6:30 pm until approximately 8:00. The activity then shifts to Bodhimandala (Warm Springs between Valle Verde and Arroyo Grande) for a more social After Meeting usually dispersing around 10:00 pm. When we did this before, the Main Event attendance tended to be around 25 and the After Meetings drew 30-50 each week. Monday Nights will be one of the anchor events as we begin to fill the weekly and special event calendar for the Main Room and Conference Room of Unity Center in the Valley.

We originally ran Monday nights from October 20th, 2008 through April 26th, 2010. A lot has happened in the three years since and a good number of our members are ready to share their experience, insight, and talents with the rest of us. So our first event back, May 27th, is going to be somewhat of a reunion and brainstorming session. We’ll discuss a number of events and event series that we intend to host, but we really want to hear from the group members regarding events they would like to facilitate themselves.

We will also discuss a few other groups that will also be cranking up at the same time, including “Awakening Youth & Families: Indigos, Crystals, and Rainbows.” While this group will be focusing on events that will be bringing our children together outside the Clark County School District setting, most of the events that I personally host through the Awareness Group are intended to be accessible to our older kids and teens. A high percentage of our teens are much more open to these new concepts, including the math and physics stuff, so they are often times better geared for these events than their parents.

The “Awakening Within the Matrix” group is also going to be activated, and we’ll be adding a whole new twist to it. We initially started the group to discuss the Matrix and other movies as metaphors for awakening, unraveling, and transcendence, and that has been a lot of fun. There just wasn't enough of it. Now's the time for us to have some fun with it.

Meanwhile, most people are unaware of the radical changes that are taking place in the world of science and physics, and a few of us are watching our world change before us. What if I told you that there is a simple electric device called the Abha Coil Over Unity Device that outputs more than 500% energy than it consumes? Yes, that would be a Perpetual Motion Machine, and I not only have seen it and worked with it and tested it, I’ve participated in building one and outputting more energy than consumed. Marko Rodin is the mathematician who created the Vortex Based Mathematics, Randy Powell who brought the math to a 3D form of a torus, Daniel Nunez who realized how it could be wired, and Rolland Gregg to bring it all together and fund it, and you can easily learn to make one by watching their videos on YouTube. Or we can have an event and fly them out here and we can make a number of them together. THIS is the kind of stuff we’re going to be talking about starting 6:30 PM on Monday, May 27th at the Unity Center in the Valley. (Check out Nassim Haramein and Walter Russell for the incredible physics enabling them to “get something from nothing.”)

So the “Awakening Within the Matrix” group is going to expand its events to include a series called “Science & Non-Duality,” much like the Science & Non-Duality events that are popping up across the country. We won’t be throwing out the baby with the bathwater as we will be compare these new concepts to the existing Standard Model, and for those who can stand it, consider their possible spiritual origin. The series will be intended to expose us a number of different paradigms, but there is not a single paradigm that will be taught as more correct than others. We’ll be striving to keep the conversation so that an intelligent, attentive high school student will be able to follow us, keeping the events accessible to our older youth as well as our adult members. If you like “What the Bleep?” and “Thrive,” you’ll like this series.

We have a number of events to begin with, knowing and intending for community members to come forward to host and facilitate other events either at the Unity Center in the Valley (UCIV or Unity CIV) or at other facilities including the nearby Ganesha Center and Blue Sky Yoga downtown at the Arts Factory. If you are currently hosting events and would like to get your event on our Calendar, please contact any one of the Leadership Team on I’ll close with a partial list of events we intend to facilitate.

What an event, what a turnout! Great job Kat. It is awesome seeing someone come into and own their strengths; it's icing on the cake when they are sharing it with us. Many more community members will be presenting during Monday nights, this was just one of the first.
