More about Fundamentals:

The Fundamentals class is an excellent introduction to ayurveda for complete beginners, and also a very good class for those who have been students of ayurveda for some time. It covers many of the key principles of ayurveda, such as dosha, dhatu, prakruti and agni, but is taught using plain English and using relevant modern-day examples. The format of the class was very digestible, and past participants have reported feeling nourished on many levels, with the ancient wisdom of ayurveda elevating their mind and the delicious ayurvedic lunch nourishing their body.

Shankari discusses how ayurveda is built on the principles of nature, starting with the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether), and how we have all five elements in our bodies. She elucidates how ayurveda can improve all aspects of our being, including the functioning of our body, mind, senses and soul. Ayurveda can treat not only the symptoms of any disease but also the root causes of the disease.

Shankari is a serene, insightful and heartful teacher with a great sense of humor. She has a gift for making the vast science of ayurveda easy-to-grasp for the beginner while also providing many “gems” for more “seasoned” ayurveda students.

For example, here is one of the many gems which she shared in a previous class: “In the ayurvedic tradition, the human being is viewed as a whole entity with four inter-related
parts: body, senses, mind and soul, which are never addressed in isolation, nor
is one ever treated at a cost to the others.”

Here is what some past participants are saying:

“The Ayurveda Fundamentals class is appropriate and meaningful for both the curious Ayurvedic newcomer as well as one who has been studying this great science for years. Shankari provides an excellent and organized overview of the fundamental principles of Ayurveda while weaving in tangible, modern-day examples. It is no small task to deliver such a thorough (and digestible!) synopsis in just a few hours, all the while moving at a sweet
and comfortable pace, pausing for reflection and sharing, allowing the majesty of this great knowledge to shine through.”
- 2nd Year Vedika Student

“Great class! Shankari reveals the essence of this knowledge in a beautiful and easily
understandable manner.”
- Jude

“The Fundamentals of Ayurveda class was a beautiful and thorough introduction to the
many dimensions of healing possible through the ancient Indian art and science of Ayurveda. It is taught by a wonderful senior student and Ayurveda practitioner in a clear, poignant, organized, inspiring, and informative way. I highly recommend this class to anyone wishing to explore Ayurveda more in-depth, and even for those who are already quite familiar with the subject.” - Ripa

I missed the first hour last month so I was there early this time for a second go round. Enjoyed every second. It is so simple. The most difficult part is letting go of western medicine and trusting the sages' wisdom. Got ghee? Jai ma!
