World's ending hike? Blackett's ridge

Hey all, Since the world is suppose to end today. Why not come with me and get a great view from the top of Blacketts ridge!

This will be a go at your own pace hike so if you ever wanted to try this but wasn't sure if you could make it this might be the right time for you. If you would like to go faster that is fine as well. I will stop at the top for a bit and relax before the trek back down.

Distance 6.5 miles

Elevation 1700 ft

Estimated time 2 - 4 hours depending on how fast you want to go.

Type Even though the pace will be easier I am still going to rate this as advanced.

Please bring 2+ litters of water, flashlight and a snack if you would like one. Please no koolaid. :-) Note this hike will be in the dark so please make sure you have a flashlight and are comfortable hiking at night.

Please note that if you have any medical issues. I would like you to write them down and keep them in an envelope in your pack. These are for emergency use only and could greatly help emergency responders in assisting you if it were needed. Information should contain Any allergies, Any medical history that might be beneficial to an emergency responder, Emergency contact number. (Either written in the envelope or in you phone as emergency contact.) If there is something that you believe your organizer should know prior to the event. (Ie you are allergic to bee stings, Etc) Please let the organizer know before the hike. Thank you all. Lets go have some fun!

Questions please email or call me[masked] As always hike at your own risk. See you on the trail!

Lets go have some fun!

Paul, Would you please call ahead ( To the appropriate Mayan official ) and delay this spectacular event until perhaps 7:30 PM ? In that way, we can ALL make it to the top to view this once-in-a-lifetime event ! -- Bob

Paul, over the weekend did I hear you say this hike would begin @ 5 (vs. 6 pm)? Either works for me.

Noreen, I remember sting tht in palm prints too. But it is set for 6 so no idea where I saw that. Sorry I told you wrong. Had to go through the description line by line to make sure I wasn't contradicting myself somewhere.

FYI, the apocalypse has started. According to my Mayan Outlook calendar reminder, a movie will be announced today. Its about a vampire dog named “Fang” who has the voice of Norm MacDonald.

I hate to be picky about this, but it's understood that the world will have already ended well before this hike, i.e. 4:11AM (11:11 UTC) that day. It's not like Paul to procrastinate though, so it's probable that he has inside knowledge and/or somehow negotiated a deferral. One thing you can be assured of though, the uphill at Blackett's seems like it never ends!

Kerry, I was granted an easement. It's only for this hike so you don't want to be to late. Temp is suppose to start climbing starting at 6 pm. But I was promised it wouldn't hit its high of 1157 until later Friday night. So make sure you dress appropriately. :-)
