Arizona Trail between Gordon Hirabayashi and Hutch's Pool

Hike Distance: ~12 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain: ~1500 feet cumulative, mostly on the way back
Hiking Time: ~ 6 hours +/-

Let's hike a part of the Arizona Trail! I've never done this portion before, so if you have, please let me know if you'd be willing to co-lead this hike. I have a map but no prior experience on this trail. Adventure time!

Meet at LeBuzz Cafe at 9am for carpool to Gordon Hirabayashi Recreation Site trailhead. LeBuzz is on the NE corner of Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway next to Safeway.

My hiking pace is medium (~2.5 mph). Experienced hikers who can stay with a group going at this pace only please.

Please Bring: full lunch and snacks, 3+ liters water, sun protection, warm layers that can be easily removed and added.

Current temp is forecasted at a high of 70 on Saturday. Beautiful.

Carpools will need $5 one day or $20 annual Catalina Mountain pass to park at trail head.

Please email me with any questions. No dogs please.

Hike at your own risk.

Great weather for hiking; only a few patches of snow around Prison Camp. Plenty of water flowing in the creeks, and at Hutch's Pool; too cold for swimming, but okay for a little wading. This was a fantastic group of fit, and interesting hikers. It was a pleasure to share the day with you. Thank you!

Bob- are you going swimming if any one else does? You are pretty safe since I am not able to go this time.

Hmm... I thought everyone knew that I have a standing credo: " If anyone else goes swimming -- I will also go in" Now, with that said, hopefully no one else will be silly enough to try the icy water tomorrow. I will bring my swimsuit ( Just in case ;-0 ) -- Bob

Thanks to Robert for offering to help us with our navigation. He is familiar with the Arizona Trail.

Hi Angie, if a spot opens up on the hike, you will automatically be added to the event since you're the first person on the waiting list. There is a good chance a spot will open up!

Sarah, there was a little snow on the trail near Gordon Hirabayashi yesterday when I was up there. Though with the weather turning warmer it should all be gone by Saturday. Well either gone or bring some gloves for some great snowball snow! :-)

FYI, there are no more fees, passes to purchase...that is finished now and all these parks are free.
