Hello BCPVA members and guests,

We are excited to present BCPVA March 25 Monthly meeting with a great line up. BCPVA has Andrei Mincov, Intellectual Property Lawyer to talk about protecting your ideas and covering your video assets. A lucky person will win his book “The Ultimate Insider’s Guide to Intellectual Property.”

We also have Rob Hunt, an indie filmmaker and videographer who successfully raised $36,000 via kickstarter for the 3rd season of web series – “Standard Action”. He will share lessons learned.

Meeting agenda:

1. Andrei Mincov, Trademark Factory ® – Intellectual Property Law

Topic: Protecting Your Ideas and Covering Your Assets® for videographers

Do you hire others to create your website and marketing materials?
Want to make sure you have proper contracts with your clients?
Have you built a recognizable brand?

If you answered yes to at least one of these questions, then—knowingly or unknowingly—you are dealing with intellectual property (IP) assets, and need to be very careful about it.

You will learn:

- 5 things to look out for when using someone else’s content;
- 3 areas to cover in any agreement dealing with creation of intellectual property;
- 8 most dangerous myths about trademark registration.

About Andrei Mincov

Andrei Mincov is an intellectual property lawyer with 20 years of experience, the bestselling author of The Ultimate Insider’s Guide to Intellectual Property, and the founder of the Trademark Factory®.

He started out as a copyright lawyer helping his father, a well-known Russian composer, go after a radio station that stole his music and used it in a Samsung advertisement.

He came to Canada in 2007, got his Canadian lawyer license and started his firm in 2011.

In 2013, he launched Trademark Factory, a service that is revolutionizing the way businesses protect their brands in Canada and the U.S.

Door Prize: A copy of his book, "The Ultimate Insider’s Guide to Intellectual Property"

2. Rob Hunt, an indie filmmaker and videographer

Topic: “$36,000 Successful Crowd-funding and Lessons from Kickstarter and IndieGoGo”

In 2013 we ran a kickstarter to fund season 3 of “Standard Action, a fantasy comedy web series. Our goal was to raise $12,000 and we managed to raise $36,000.

Running and fulfilling a crowd source campaign is not as easy as many may assume. They involve significant planning and hard work before during and after.

There are a lot of great resources online that can help you plan, run and track your campaign. We funded 6 episodes and reached numerous stretch goals including the creation of a card game.

I will share what I've learned from my involvement in 4 campaigns.
