  • This will be classified as a "Premium Trip" for the club and $20 per person will be part of the cost to be used to support BCH. After I move you from the wait list, you will have one week to send $75 to my paypal account of which $20 will be refunded at the trail head.

We will need to meet by 3:00 at McDonalds and be on the road ASAP for the South bass trail head. It is an easy drive to Tuscany but than a difficult drive over a dirt road to the trail head. I figure we will reach the trail head at around 9:00 PM. If we can get an earlier start we will. Two High clearance 4 wheel is preferred for the trip, especially since this time of year can be a bit of a challenge getting to the South Bass trail head.

Wednesday we will start early. This will be perhaps the toughest day at around 13 miles of tough down climbs to the Royal Arch. I want to get on the trail at first light around 6:00 am to give us as much time as we can get for this day. When we reach the esplanad level ( about 1.5 miles in) have a liter of water to cash for the hike out. We will spend the night at the Arch and have the next morning to explore the area.

Thursday we have a short hike over to Tolltec beach, but there will be a 20 foot repel that must be navigated. It is not a tough day but we end with a very steep down climb to the beech. Tolltec is a beautiful little beach with lots of space to spread out for our night here.

Early Friday morning we will day hike over to Elf's Chasm for one  of the truly magical spots of the Canyon for a day of relaxation and some of the most amazing photo ops in the Canyon. To break up the long trek from Toltec Beach to South Bass Canyon, we will head back and break down camp. We will hike until we find a spot out on the edge of the Tonto Plateau for a dry camp with amazing views up and down the canyon.

Saturday we have an enjoyable hike over to South Bass Canyon and with any luck we will have water for the night, otherwise we will do the 4 mile round trip to the river to tank up on water.

Sunday will be the hike out back to South Bass trail head and the drive back to Phoenix. We should be back to the trail head by noon to 2:00 PM.

This is a tough hike and not to be taken lightly, so make sure you are up for one of the more challenging but rewarding trips in the Canyon. I will question all participants and move people from the wait list as I qualify you. If you have not repelled I will try to set up a repel exercise for every one before the hike.
