“London Behat Users” is a non-profit group to promote knowledge sharing best Behavior Driven Development (BDD) practices using Behat. Behat is powerful BDD tool for PHP project. Anyway, it's not limited to London.

I am glad to announce our first meetup for Behat starter. Don't worry if you never used/heard about Behat. Our first meet-up is for learning Behat from scratch.

Agenda:

Feel free to come along at 6:30. We will kick-off at sharp 7 PM.

7:00-7:30 - Informal chat and Introductions,
7:30-7:35 - welcome by executive committee & any group announcements
7:35-8:00 – Workshop/talks/Demo.
8:00- (till you get bored) – Move to pub for more chat afterward.

First meet-up talk/demo/workshop will cover learning Behat from scratch. This will cover

1. Behat/Mink Installation
2. Create first project
3. Write first Gherkin feature
4. Implement Step Definitions for integrated classes (Developer's View)
5. Implement step definitions for functional tests ( Tester's View )
6. See you first feature get passed.

There will be two section of this demo. One for developers and another for testers to implement step definitions.

It would be great if you come up with your Laptop. You can download source code  and play around with Behat.

Speakers:

Jakub Zalas (@zakub_zalas) will cover 'Developers View' about Behavior Driven Development with Behat

Shashikant Jagtap (@Shashikant86) will cover 'Tester's View) browser automation testing with Behat.

Not bad! Many thanks to the presenters for their time and effort - it was greatly appreciated!
However, I'd like to add some constructive criticism to help make future meetups be better:

I know presenting is nerve-racking (I've done it too!) but please make sure you speak slowly, loudly and clearly - especially if you're speaking in a non-native language! It was quite tough to follow what was being said.

Don't assume buzzwords/tech terms are known. Be aware of terminology and explain what it means/refers to.

Use LARGE fonts and CLEAR colour contrasts. Dark blue text on a black background meant I couldn't read the code!

Don't assume the audience knows where on the screen you are referring to. Point to it and read it out. I not only couldn't read the commands but I didn't know which of the three that were just typed the presenter was referring to!

These are pretty basic points which I am SURE you are aware of and it's just a matter of practise to get them right!

I believe that our company's conference room would be a good location for this. It's right at Tottenham Court Road, centrally located, nice big screen for the demo. I'll ask.
