Welcome to our newly branded book club -- Big Easy Readers! We were previously a young adult fiction book club that has expanded our boundaries to books of all genres. Our emphasis is to create a fun, casual environment to discuss books and to connect our members to each other. Our meet-ups are NOT college-level English level. We're pressure-free and our talks are organic and often meander to other interesting topics. Even if you didn't get to finish (or start) the book, you're welcomed to join us and enjoy a drink (or two).
For April, prepare to be dropped into a massive, intergalactic setting that explores culture, war, and commerce from the perspective of several alien species and gets to the heart of what it means to connect with other beings.
Becky Chamber's The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is a modern, science fiction novel that was nominated for the Author C. Clark Award and win the British Fantasy Award in 2016.
We anticipate it to be a quick read that is thought-provoking, adventurous, cozy, and described as "catnip for space opera fans."
Can't wait to discuss it on Tuesday, April 16th. mark your calendars and get reading!
As usual, we will likely be at the big square table in Bayou Wine Garden in the corner. See you then.
