• What's the point? How to digitize point cloud data in Construction Reality.

Save-the-date for our next Vancouver Meetup on Thursday, November 14 at Stantec Architecture. This will be a regular Meetup presentation with an "Open Session" at the end where attendees are encouraged to stay and discuss technical issues and best practices when implementing BIM in an informal setting. We are pleased to announce the speakers and their topics below: What's the point? How General Contractors leverage point cloud data. --> Speaker: Kate Kirwan, VDC Manager at Turner Construction In Vancouver, the tenant improvement (TI) market is booming – where both fast and high-quality work is in huge demand. A consistent problem that TI projects face is working with existing conditions – because as-built drawings for older buildings (and let’s face it, some newer ones too) are rarely accurate. Many projects encounter “surprise” ductwork; mystical columns and beams materialize three feet away from where they were supposed to be according to the drawings, and supposedly level floors suddenly render demountable wall systems useless without targeted floor leveling. Reality capture and Scan-to-BIM help mitigate potential site delays, design changes and construction headaches. Turner Construction Company has completed close to 4 million square feet of tenant improvement projects since entering the Vancouver market in 2011 and have leveraged virtual design and construction (VDC) to assist with their projects since 2015. This presentation will demonstrate how Turner’s VDC team integrate point cloud data and 3D models of existing conditions into their projects, sharing case studies, best practices and lessons learned. Digitizing your Construction Reality --> Speaker: David Prangnell, Reality Capture Sale Manager at Leica Geosystems Join David Prangnell from Leica Geosystems for an in-depth walk through scanning on a construction site with the Leica RTC360. He will discuss how to process your data for QA/QC and finish off your data and final model in Revit and Leica CloudWorx. Pizza and drinks will be available courtesy of our sponsors.
