Fort Churchill Nevada Tour, Meeting , and Campout

  • Jul 26, 2014 · 8:00 AM

Route Sheet

Tour Captain's Report

The starting location has changed.  After eating at Denica's, I don't believe that the club can get in and out in a timely fashion.  I've moved the starting location to IHOP.  It's close to the freeway and the starting point of our ride.

Ted will have the GPS route available soon.  The route is approximately 250 miles.  The group site is Pony Bob, and the rangers will have the gate closed but unlocked for those that may traveling individually.

IHOP on First and Los Positas in Livermore, CA is the breakfast location and starting point for the Tour.

Fort Churchill is a bring your own food event. Dinner shopping can be done at Safeway in Dayton NV on the way to the campground.

Membership meeting is at 5 PM on Saturday.

Camping is $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members.

This month we are traveling to Fort Churchill, Nevada and we will learn about the fort's ruins and its history that started in 1861 a year after the so-called Pyramid Lake War began in 1860. The fort was abandoned in 1869 after serving as protection for the Army, Pony Express and a supply depot during the Civil War.

Come join us and learn more about this location and the neighboring Buckland Station down the road, which provided an important way station for pioneer travelers and was one of the earliest ranches in the area. All at this month’s ride and camp venture.

Wow! What an awesome group! I just joined and wish that I had found it earlier. I am from Nor. Cal. but currently in So. Cal. My brother is still up in Nor. Cal and I'd certainly ride up to go on this ride. You guys are so organized. Any one happen to know of a similarly organized group in So. Cal.?

    Have a great ride!

Thanks Kelly. I found the So Cal BMW Meetup group, but they don't seem to have the number of members or regular interest of the members they do have (yes, a little jealous that my brother lives up your way and will get to go on these rides a bit more than me). I do get the Long Beach BMW notifications and I will certainly take them up on those. thanks and ride safe!

Food and Tequila and JD and Beer - and firewood. Rowe brought in local reinforcements with all of it. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about. The only thing lacking was sleep. Special thanks to Alan Marcus - the BBQ'd Kabobs were Kabeautiful! Tuco

Z, Dan Carter, Ted, and I pre-rode the route for next weekend. The tour will be a great ride with many varied road conditions from riding through the delta, high Sierra passes, twisty sweeping turns on NV 50, and the openness of Nevada. It was hot in Carson City as we passed through, but it cools down quickly in the high desert.

Hey guys _ have a great time on the tour and camping. This should be a fun event. I will be doing an Iron Butt ride to Colorado to a family reunion in Manitou Springs. Look forward to Bodega Bay.
