Hello BNFree members. For our reading/discussion group on January 8th, let's look at how facts connect to values. Sam Harris wrote The Moral Landscape in 2010, arguing that science does have the ability to weigh in on moral questions. The book was widely criticized.

Here is a related debate between Steven Pinker and former New Republic editor Leon Wieseltier: Pinker's original article and Wieseltier's response. It touches on several things besides morality, but morality is one of the important flashpoints.

I'll say straight out that I don't like Wieseltier at all, but that's different from Pinker being right.
