The grant to teach the class limits the class to 12 adult participants.
Learn to ride your bike (more) safely and confidently with traffic, on city and residential streets, or just about anywhere you could want to go on paved roads. The Street Cycling Skills class is an 8-hour course that Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) and Metro are offering free to the public for the summer of 2013. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The class is taught by Robert Neiuber and Ernie Lopez League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) certified by the League of American Bicyclists. The 8-hour course includes classroom instruction, a bicycle handling practice session, on-road riding, and a short exam at the end of class.
This class is a prerequisite for anyone interested in becoming a League Certified Instructor.
Each class participant will receive a free helmet, front & rear lights, and educational materials.
Each student must bring:
1. A bicycle in good working condition (please take your bike to a local shop or co-op if you are unsure about the condition of your bicycle)
2. Pen and paper for taking notes.
3. Food for lunch, snacks, water.
There are additional classes coming up in Baldwin Park on August 31, El Monte on September 15, and Pomona on September 22. You can sign-up for these classes at http://la-bike.org/bicyclesafetyclasses.
Helmets are mandatory on all BOBie rides. Bring a spare tube and a method to inflate, two bottles of water, nutrition uand appropriate clothing to be comfortable during the entire ride.
Be sure to have Sun Screen for HOT or SUNNY days.
FOG, DRIZZLE, or MIST, or any other extreme weather: our new policy is to meet at the scheduled place and time and decide to wait or cancel depending on the conditions at the time of ride. Rain cancels the ride.
If this causes you to cancel one hour or less before the scheduled Meet Up time please call or text me [masked]) to avoid delays.
Please bring Emergency ID and a cell phone (is recommended).
