  • Movie Marathon at Malden member's home

    Needs a location

****Please read all the way through the event description before you RSVP!!*** Let's spend a Sunday watching three vintage queer classics! Our longtime member, Angel, is hosting the day at her home in Malden, a short walk from the Malden Center stop on the Orange Line. Max number of attendees is 12, so please RSVP early. Angel will email the address to the attendees the week of the event, so please keep your RSVP up to date. You are welcome to bring a date of any gender if you wish. (Please include them in the RSVP!) We will have the grill going for dinner, so either bring something for the grill, or a side dish, or be prepared to pitch in $10 to our host. Napkins, cups, and plates will be provided, and limited beverages. There are plenty of seats. We may even set up a screen and projector for an outdoor viewing experience! The doors open at 2:00pm and the movie will start at 2:30 SHARP, so please don't be later than that. The first movie we will watch is "Better Than Chocolate" (1999). Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hcvuF5DWyY&has_verified=1 Synopsis: Not long after moving into her own place, Maggie (Karyn Dwyer) finds herself with two unsolicited roommates: her recently divorced mother, Lila (Wendy Crewson), and her young brother. The timing is especially bad, considering Maggie has fallen hard for an attractive woman, Kim (Christina Cox), only hours before they move in. What could be a nonissue becomes increasingly complicated -- since Maggie's family is unaware of her sexual orientation, and Maggie is not open to sharing that information. Our second movie is "Jeffrey" (1995). Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGQRgOJ2bV0 Synopsis: Jeffrey (Steven Weber), a gay man living in New York City with an overwhelming fear of contracting AIDS, concludes that being celibate is the only option to protect himself. As fate would have it, shortly after his declaration of a sex-free existence, he meets the handsome Steve Howard (Michael T. Weiss), his dream man -- except for his HIV-positive status. Facing this dilemma, Jeffrey turns to his best friend (Patrick Stewart) and an outrageous priest (Nathan Lane) for guidance. Our third movie will be the pilot episode of "The L Word" (2004). (We have the first two seasons on DVD, so if we get into it, there can be more future movie nights to see the rest.) Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av_49Btfl64 Synopsis: This long-running Showtime series features intertwined stories about the lives and loves of a group of lesbians and bisexuals in Los Angeles. The characters date, get into committed relationships, consider having families, hook up, break up, question their sexuality, stay in the closet, come out or sleep around -- sometimes all of the above. Please cancel your RSVP if you can no longer attend, so that others may. IMPORTANT! PLEASE NOTE! Address will be sent out the week of the movie - if you do not have your Meetup subscription enabled to receive emails from other members, Angel cannot PM you the address! Additionally, please make sure you have either met Donna or Angel prior, as this is at a member's personal home. Attending our Diesel social is the best way to get this requirement met so that you can attend our movie nights.
