What we're about

“So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth.” -Baha'u'llah

The members of the Baha’i Faith in our area have set up this group to offer all people a variety of spaces to connect with our spiritual dimension, unite with one another, and continue to learn to apply principles of spiritual reality to our everyday lives.

We seek to nourish and support the community's aspirations of unity and justice through fostering, cultivating, elevating, and promoting spirituality and peace through discussion, the arts and community service. We aim to host events that uplift, inspire and give expression to the human spirit. We welcome a diverse community from all backgrounds and create spaces for community members of all ages that facilitate elevated conversation, inquiry, consultation and learning. As we grow together and learn from one another we hope to build bridges of unity and respect for all humanity.

Devotional Gatherings: Anyone who is interested in prayer and mediation, nourishment of their souls, and growing their faith, are invited to participate in these devotional gatherings. There are no rituals in devotional gatherings, and no one individual has any special role. Meetings consist largely of reading prayers and passages from the Baha'i sacred texts in an informal yet respectful atmosphere, and the Holy Writings from all Faith traditions are welcome. Often a discussion of topics such as the unity of mankind, service, and principles that contribute to the well-being of the collective fabric of mankind emerge.

Study Circles: The Ruhi Institute is a community learning process through which study, skill building through actions of community service, reflection, and meaningful discourse, contributes to enhancing our capacity to be united with each other and advance the security and prosperity of our community. Every participant that the courses of the Ruhi Institute trace a path of service to humanity, upon which we each walk at our own pace, assisting and being assisted by others. Treading this path implies the pursuit of a twofold moral purpose: to attend to one’s own spiritual and intellectual growth and to contribute to the transformation of society. On the calendar, Study Circles are titled according to what the study and skill is focused on, and each Study Circle can be intensive (one or two weekends), or weekly (6-12 weeks depending).

Nourishment and Upliftment for the Heart and Soul - prayers, readings, songs

Each week we gather (online currently), read selected Baha'i prayers and teachings, and share personal prayers. Please come and consider sharing a favorite prayer, reading, poem, or song which touches your heart. If you have a musical instrument, besides your voice, consider bringing it too.

We believe the future of the world depends upon our ability to come together and live as one human family. Spirituality is an indispensable tool that helps us transcend differences and connect in meaningful ways. We are creating spaces that are casual, simple, and genuinely loving, in which to share from the heart in prayer and in meaningful conversation. We seek to foster spiritual connections, by seeing the variety among us as flowers of the garden of humanity. These connections become the foundations upon which we can find creative solutions to our common problems, develop meaningful paths of service, and make Charlottesville Albemarle (and the world) a better place to live and to raise our children.

We value equity for all, and all are welcome. No donations are requested or accepted.
