What we're about

Welcome to Bakers and Tasters! We are a Baking Club (AND EATING CLUB!)

Ladies, do you...

• Love to bake (sweet or savory)? OR....

• Love to eat sweet and savory baked goods?

• Love to socialize over coffee and tea?

...if you say "yes" to any of these questions, then this meetup group is for you!

For now, we will be scheduling a meetup once every month or two in DANVERS, MA. Don't be afraid of the wait list! Just throw your name on there! I can assure you that people sign up well ahead and then by the time the event rolls around, it dwindles down. In general, everyone gets to attend unless it's a special small event on rare occasion.

This meetup group is for ladies only - every night will be "ladies night"!

BAKERS - Do you need people to eat your experiments? Would you like a "cafe" style setting for people to enjoy your baking? If you are a baker (new or seasoned) and want a unique outlet for your baking while meeting new people, please join us! And on those occasional weeks when you don't feel like baking, or are too busy to bake, you can be a taster and simply come and enjoy!

TASTERS - Do you love to sit around a table with a cup of coffee and enjoy a sweet or savory treat in the evening while having the opportunity to meet new friends? Then please join us!

ANYONE ELSE - If you are not a baker and are not really interested in eating but love to meet new friends over a cup of coffee and would enjoy a monthly ladies night out, then by all means please join us!

DUES: This meetup group is FREE to join. There will be a contribution bucket at events and it is recommended that attendees contribute $2 - $5 per attended event. It is extremely helpful in off-setting the meetup costs (which continuously increase), and buying supplies. Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated! If you want to know where your contributions are going, the finances are public and there is a link on the event page. You can see all of the startup costs and ongoing costs and how the past dues and contributions have helped to offset those costs.

I am very excited about this meetup! I have always enjoyed baking and I would do more 'recipe tweaking' and recreational baking if I had people to eat it on a regular basis. This will be a great outlet while meeting new friends at the same time! I am thoroughly excited about baking new recipes while meeting new friends over coffee!

Sweet and Savory Dishes inspired by your Favorite Candy! Read on.....

We all have a favorite candy ... either one we currently can't resist, or one that we loved as a child. Choose a flavor in your favorite candy as your inspiration for a sweet or savory dish! This will take some creativity and research but we can do this! Also...if your favorite candy bar is still around, bring one with you for "show and tell" hahaha!! :):) Some ideas:

SNICKERS - you could make a snickers inspired dessert or a savory dish using peanuts or peanut butter.

SOUR PATCH - A sweet and sour dish

HOT TAMALES - A spicy dish

MALLOW CUPS - Peanut butter Fluff sandwiches on home made bread? Baked smores... use that marshmallow!

TWIX - Use shortbread for anything sweet or savory

MILKY WAY - Caramelized anything! Caramel can be incorporated into any savory dish or ..... caramelized bacon. Oh yes :))

FRUITY GUMMIES - Make anything fruity! Pie, Cake, or a fruit jam or sauce for a savory dish.

ALMOND JOY - So many things we can do with coconut and almonds :)

PURE CHOCOLATE - We did a "chocolate" meetup before and came up with some pretty inventive chocolate savory dishes! The "sweet" speaks for itself :).

PEPPERMINT PATTY - A minty salad with home baked croutons, minty dessert, minty anything!

You can use your favorite candy flavors in a dip, breads, muffins, meat dishes, desserts, absolutely anything. Try and include a baked element if your main item is not baked. Don't forget to bring ONE of your favorite candy! This is going to be a SWEET event! :)):):)

*This is a ladies only meetup. If you are a first timer and you add a +1 to your RSVP, please make sure it's a female. We provide take out containers and you are welcome to take food home to husbands and boyfriends, but we like to keep this meetup a ladies night out!

*Please be sure to change your rsvp if you cannot attend. Please do not wait until the last minute to do so. This makes it very difficult for people on the waitlist to research recipes and have time to bake. No-shows make it impossible for others to attend. I realize that things come up, however please be courteous of other members whenever possible. If you don't show for a meetup or back out last minute (affecting others who would like to attend) I may move you to the wait list for the next meetup to give others a chance to attend, depending on the circumstances. I want to be fair to everyone and give everyone equal opportunity to enjoy these events! :)

*Before the meetup, leave a comment and let us know if you are a Baker or a Taster! If you are a baker, tell us what you are baking. Please look at the other comments to make sure there are no exact duplicates. Your recipe should be enough for attendees to have a tiny portion. Don't feel obligated to double or triple your recipe.

$ CONTRIBUTIONS: I don't officially require payment for events, however it is suggested that attendees contribute $2 - $3 at each event (contribution bucket provided). I don't keep tabs on who contributes and I will continue to run this fun group regardless of donations, but Meetup expenses do add up, and the cost to organize a group just increased again. If you would like to see what your contribution is going towards, you can click on the link below (the link doesn't always work on mobile devices). All expenses from the beginning of this group are recorded. Online contributions are listed under "contributions". Cash donations are listed under "other income" : https://www.meetup.com/Bakers-and-Tasters/money

Looking forward to seeing everyone!! Happy Baking! :):)
