I started this group after reading Daniel Klein's "Travels with Epicurus." It's a beautiful book "On Seeking a Philosophy of Old Age." The book chronicles his journey through Greece as Klein himself contemplates his own mortality. He chose Epicurus as the main philosopher who answered his questions on aging, and I can see why as I read this quote from Epicurus himself: "It is not the young man who should be considered fortunate, but the old man who has lived well, because the young man in his prime wanders much by chance, vacillating in his beliefs, while the old man has docked in the harbor, having safeguarded his true happiness."
I couldn't think of a better description of what this group is about. We are Epicureans who believe that "not what we have, but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance."
This group will meet monthly at a regular haunt for Happy Hour & good food in a downtown lounge-bar environment. Join us if you enjoy delightful philosophical discussions and good times with like-minded friends.
This is our first Meetup for the group! Hope you can make it! Don’t be shy as we are all new! Remember - life is about Showing Up!
We will meet in the Lounge area for the happy hour specials. They have special prices for drinks & a half-off happy hour menu. It’s also a nice environment for a group of friends.
