Laughter Yoga combines laughter and deep yogic breathing exercises (no yoga poses). It is the creation of cardiologist Dr. Madan Kataria, who started his first laughter club in 1995. This wellness movement has now spread to 105 countries.
When you laugh deeply (engaging the diaphragm), you introduce more oxygen to the body, which is great for regulating blood pressure and promoting vascular health, which is good for the heart and the brain. Hearty laughter is also great for the lymphatic system.
Cancer groups, combat vets, retirement centers, therapists, doctors, counselors, teachers, life coaches, social workers, activities directors, corporate groups, students and others are using Laughter Yoga to help reduce stress, build stamina, become resilient and to improve communication, foster empathy and compassion.
