Let's meet up for the First Thursday Concert

This is not really a jazz or blues show, but there are 3 pretty good bands, it's free, and the outdoor music setting is beautiful, and it's the next to last show of the summer.

One of the performers, J.C. McPherson, JD McPherson is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He is known for a retro sound rooted in the rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and rockabilly music of the 1950s.

Another band, The Whigs, is The Whigs are an American garage rock band from Athens, Georgia.

The third band, Moon Taxi, is an American indie-progressive rock band based in Nashville, Tennessee. The setting is a hillside overlooking the Harbor, located South of Boston Street, near the intersection of S. Ellwood Avenue. If you're into beer, Baltimore's Own The Brewer's Art will have multiple tents set up selling a variety of their excellent microbrews. Since Brewer's Art is one of the main sponsors, attendees are encouraged to patronize their services. Food vendors will also be on hand. However, lines can be long, and bringing your own cooler is not forbidden. The park opens at 6 pm, and the music starts at 6:30 and lasts until 11 pm. Best to bring a blanket and/or lawn chair to sit on. Parking can be tight if you want to park on the street, but there are also some paid parking lots nearby. See the First Thursday website for all the details: http://wtmd.org/radio/first-thursday-concerts-in-the-park/

I plan to get there relatively early, and will hopefully be able to stake out a territory for us before it gets too crowded (it will). I'll be wearing a faded orange Sarasota Jazz Club balcap and will have a sign saying "Meetup" to help you find me and the group.

I totally understand your apprehensions if you are unfamiliar with the area. Honestly, it is a pretty nice area. Your best bet may be to try to find street parking. If you are still not comfortable, I understand. Ravens game is on the other opposite side of town. Tim

I'm having logistical problems with the parking. Based on Parking Panda information, the nearest paid lot is 1.3 miles away from the park. The distance combined with my unfamiliarity with the area and a Raven's game tonight makes me think I should err on the side of caution and skip the event. Any parking solutions I'm not aware of?

Park opens at 6 pm, music starts at 6:30. I'll try to get there at 6 and stake out a spot near the middle of the seating area, maybe a little closer to the back than the front. I'll be in a green folding chair and wearing my faded orange Sarasota Jazz Club ballcap. More importantly, I'll have a smallish sign about 4 feet off the ground next to my chair which reads "Jazz & Blues Meetup." The place fills up quickly, so I can't guarantee a spot near me as the crowd arrives.

If you have trouble spotting me (us), call or text me at[masked], or email me at [masked]. If you spot me (us) and there's no room nearby, stake out your own spot and drop by to say "HOWDY."

Hope to see you there. Ken

Sorry for the typo after WTMD on my previous post.....You get the drift.

Tim, you surely can bring a buddy. The more the merrier. Sue, and all, if you come early, you can probably find street parking. Otherwise there's a paid lot nearby. Check out the First Thursdays Web page on the WTMD WE MD website for more details regarding the event, including directions and parking. As far as finding the group, I'll try to get there early and stake out a spot near the middle of the listening area. I'll plant a cheesy homemade sign reading Jazz and Blues Meetup and will be wearing my faded orange Sarasota Jazz Club ballcap.
