Iowa City-based non-profit citizen group StopBigBrother.Org together with Young Americans for Liberty, ACLU of Iowa, and College Republicans are holding an open public forum in support of the initiative petition to ban traffic surveillance — including drones — in Iowa City. The event will feature:
A keynote address by Ben Stone, Executive Director of ACLU of Iowa ( http://www.aclu-ia.org/ ) A keynote address by Gary Biller, President of the National Motorists Association ( http://www.motorists.org/ ) A drone surveillance technology demo An address by Iowa Senator Brad Zaun A panel discussion / public forum on the topic of traffic surveillance, drones, and the associated public safety, socio-economic, judicial and civil liberties issues Members of the public supportive of the initiative will have the opportunity to add their signature to the petition throughout the event. 2,500 signatures are required by April 1st for the petition to be considered for adoption by the city council or to go to a public vote in November.
The forum will take place on March 28th, from 7 to 9pm, at the University of Iowa's Chemistry Building, auditorium W128:
Parking will be available across the street from both sides of the Chemistry Building at North Hall Parking Ramp and IMU Parking Ramp.
