Needs a location
We are going a little farther after our fantastic Maine trip last year. As it is late season, we should have the place to ourselves. And it's a beautiful place.
We will spend Friday and Saturday nights in the town of Stonington, Maine, on Deer Isle and paddle on Saturday all day (or as much as we can) and on Sunday morning. Depart Sunday early afternoon. Accommodations are to be determined based on our number. We are considering Old Quarry Ocean Adventures, which is a campground with some heated accommodations, or finding a rental house. So costs are TBD as well. Old Quarry has rental kayaks.
It is a 320-mile drive from Providence, about 6 hours without traffic. Carpool arrangements probably can be made. Organizers will probably depart RI in the early afternoon on Friday.
This is for solid intermediate paddlers. Sorry, no beginners. We will paddle among the small islands off the east and southeast side of Deer Isle. If we get calm conditions, we can think about circumnavigating Isle Au Haut.
Mandatory: sea kayak (with cockpit), spray skirt (and ability to do a wet exit), PFD, whistle, paddle float, hand pump, and lights (if going on afternoon paddle). Highly recommended: dry suit or wetsuit, marine radio. The water will be cold.
Please click the Attend/Going button to indicate your strong interest in going. You won't be committing until we flesh out the accommodation details, but we need an idea of how many people we are.
