Speakers this session include: David Canepa Talamas will be presenting his pilot project of an AR tour of Bath that has been commissioned by Visit Bath to bring new kind of tourist experience to the city. Startup story: Graduate Innovation Award winner Nia Simpson will be presenting the Compact Cane – an intelligent, discreet ‘white cane’ for blind people, developed in her final year Specialist Design project. Chris May, Founder and MD from Mayden will be talking about how the Bath based tech company has grown and flourished to be one of they city's biggest tech employees, and how they have recently Best Development Team of the Year at the UK IT Industry Awards.

  • Silicon Gorge 2018 The Pitching Competition Semifinals!
    For our 2018 Silicon Gorge Pitching compettition, there will be a chance for 10 of the most innovative and investible start and scale up companies in the region to pitch to some of the top investors at an exclusive Investor Showcase during Bristech. This event is the semi finals where our shortlisted companies pitch to an audience to get through to the final showcase. There will be a panel of experienced local judges judging the competition to ensure that only the most investible startups go through to meet the Investors.   • Digital Business Acceleration Hub Launch and BathSPARK social
    It's the Launch of Bath's Digital Business Hub and BathSPARK Social! The Digital Innovation Business Acceleration Hub is a new programme of support provided by the University of Bath SETsquared Innovation Centre for companies innovating in digital platforms and immersive technology; this includes the health, well-being and creative media sectors. The support is fully funded through the EU European Development Fund. There will be a panel discussion alongside networking, drinks and nibbles at the Bath Brew House. The panel will be chaired by Garry Pratt from Bath SETSquared and include: 1. Dr Becky Sage- CEO, Interactive Scientific Dr. Becky Sage is an award-winning CEO with over 10 years of experience in science and business. She leads Interactive Scientific, who design immersive solutions for scientific visualisation, collaboration and experimentation in the education and pharmaceutical markets. Sage was named one of 2018 London Tech Week’s 30 Change Makers to watch, as well as being recognised as a 2016 Innovate UK Infocus awards winner, finalist for 2016 WISE Tech Start-Up Award and Regional Finalist for HSBC Forward Ladies Award 2017. 2. Jo Hardy- Founder, Curious Trekkers Jo Hardy is the founder of Curious Trekkers, an early stage start up that is a programme for primary schools to encourage all kids to get active, especially those that aren’t naturally enthusiastic about traditional sports lessons 3. Adrienne Percival- Director, Flourish Zone Adrienne is the founder of flourishzone, which is creating an AI driven platform to help people and organisations increase their productivity, wellbeing and resilience.     This post is meant as helpful information for our members, if you'd like to go to the event sign up on eventbrite here - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/university-industry-rd-collaborations-in-immersive-technologies-bath-tickets-45239022133?aff=BathWorkshop#tickets An Immerse UK and CAMERA Workshop: University-Industry R&D Collaborations in Immersive Technologies Secrets to Winning Innovation Funding and Running Successful Collaborative Projects in Partnership with Universities The recent Government announcements of the £150million Creative Industries Sector Deal and £33million ‘Audiences of the Future’ challenge funding highlight the current exciting opportunities for innovation in immersive technologies. Description: The theme of the workshops is leveraging cross-sector partnerships and enabling, immersive technologies to stimulate collaborative R&D projects for innovation and business growth. The workshops will draw on the collective experience of seasoned collaborators from industry and academia, alongside funding providers and experienced bid writers. Participants will be able to informally discuss what is involved in building successful collaborations with universities, what funding routes are available in relevant technology areas, and how best to access them. Who Should Attend: Priority will be given to UK based* startup, micro and small to medium-sized enterprises** (SMEs) with a clear interest in novel development or applications of immersive technology platforms and content. Previous academic-industrial collaboration is not a prerequisite to attendance. Please note that places on the workshops are limited and we cannot guarantee that all applicants will be able to attend. You will be contacted by email following registration and invited to submit a 100-word outline of your R&D interests. Pre-Workshop Materials: To inform presentations and group discussions, CAMERA will circulate a list of funding mechanisms and specific calls to participants before the event, plus example collaboration agreements used by Innovate UK. All applicants will be asked to submit a 100-word outline of ~3-5 areas of interest for R&D collaborations in immersive technologies. Content should be top level only. This information will ONLY be used by the organizers to group participants by interest area in session 2. Information shared in the workshop application will not be made public or shared with any third parties at any point.
