What we're about

This group is for anyone that has ever felt the horrendous pain, confusion and despair of depression. This group is for those that want help or support in pulling themselves out of the darkness.

We are a small group of like-minded individuals who either suffer from depression or have a close family friend who suffers from depression. None of us are medical professionals or trained in psychology. We come from a range of different back-grounds including teaching and business. We include an equal number of both sexes and our age range spans over forty years. Between us, we have spent hundreds of hours researching the subject and cross referring our findings and ideas between us. We are no different from any other similar gathering in that we do not always agree on every detail, but we are certainly in harmony with the vast bulk of our collected knowledge on depression. Probably more pertinent is the fact that we all agree one hundred percent on the individual horror that depression can cause. It was this alignment of consensus that brought us together and fuelled our desire to build on it. We urge anyone to visit the website to learn more about us.

This is a support group with a difference. This free 10-week programme will cover a variety of different theories on the causes, prevention and treatment of depression. Topics covered will include alternative treatments, social connections, volunteering, compassion, acceptance, mindfulness, diet and stresses of the modern world. The programme is based on years of research and experience.
The aim of the programme is to give you a better understanding of the illness and how to ease the suffering.

We want to make one thing very clear. We are a non-for-profit organisation. WE DO NOT CHARGE A FEE. We are non-secular and there are no religious connotations in what we will look at together.

IMPORTANT: This is not a medical service. Please ensure that you have been to your GP regarding your depression and that you continue with any on-going support. Our research and programme is based on helping those that have been diagnosed with depression, so please don't attend this group if you have other mental health difficulties, as we don't have experience and knowledge to help.

The group will meet once a week in a safe and friendly environment. Most importantly, the aim of the sessions is to have fun. There will be bi-weekly opportunities to get together as a group socially and get to know each other better. All that I ask is that you commit to the full 10 weeks and keep an open mind. It won't cost you a penny.

Meet like-minded people who, like you, understand the horrendous symptoms associated with the illness and may have tried a variety of different treatments.

Limited places are available.

Location: Ascot Drive Fire Station Community Room, Derby

Session One: Social Connections

DE24 8GZ

This is the first session of the 10 week programme. We will explore the importance of social connections and how we can reconnect with those that we have lost contact with, and how we can make new connections. More information of what to bring will be sent via email - nothing to worry about, though. I'm really looking forward to this! Hope you all can make it! IMPORTANT: Anyone who would like to come but didn't attend the launch night needs to contact me either on here or email. It won't be a problem, but I just need to run through a few things with you :)
