This hike, which combines both Skyline Ridge OSP and Russian Ridge OSP, is about 10 miles. The elevation change is about 600-700 feet, and with several ups and downs. The duration is roughly 4 hours.
The hike is moderate and won't be challenging for most hikers, but because of the distance and elevation changes, it will require some stamina to keep up with the group. Please do not join us if you have difficulty with hills.
We'll begin the hike at the parking lot of Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. We'll stop at Borel Hill at 2,572 feet above sea level, and take in a panoramic view of the Bay Area. We'll stop at the deck for lunch, and return via the Ancient Oaks Trail.
For more details see Skyline Ridge (http://www.openspace.org/preserves/pr_skyline_ridge.asp) and Russian Ridge (http://www.openspace.org/preserves/pr_russian_ridge.asp).
How to Get There
The entrance to Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve is on Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35) located about one mile south of the Page Mill Road (Alpine Road) and Skyline Boulevard intersection. At maps.google.com, enter the following address and you will see the exact location of the entrance:
22200 Skyline Blvd., La Honda, CA 94020
As you drive south on Skyline Boulevard, look for the sign for Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve on the right side of the road (note that the sign is somewhat hidden by the brush until you're directly upon it). After turning right, continue to stay right and follow the signs to the parking lot, which is about two tenths of a mile to the very end. The group will meet at the parking lot.
NOTE: From Palo Alto, the drive to this trailhead takes about 30-40 minutes via Page Mill Road.
