That a great question, are we ready to make it a political reality that we govern ourselves by a secular humanist government. Secular in the sense that the humanist government is a secular government. Humanist in the sense that governments operate under the Humanist mandates starting in 1933. I do think that the time is now or very soon where a non-theist secular humanist political party can become one with the people. rh

  • Bay Area Atheists/Agnostics/Humanists/Freethinkers/Skeptics

The members were friendly, seemed to be well above average intelligence and education, but not haughty or unapproachable (like some groups I've visited). A few need to be a bit more respectful of the speakers and hold their comments and questions until the end of the talk, but that's also a moderator issue and has some wiggle room. Had a great time at dinner, too! Try to attend THAT part as well, ya'll!

This was my first experience and as I said above. I found the whole scene very uninviting. I walked in by myself and no one greeted me or invited me to sit with them. I got a drink and sat by myself until Sri (who was also there for his first time) came in and joined me. The only greeting I had was to be given a rubber band. Would have liked to go to dinner, but did not get the name of restaurant. At the end no one did anything to gather us to go there.

  • Bay Area Atheists/Agnostics/Humanists/Freethinkers/Skeptics

This was the first event I attended and I'm impressed with the leadership and the level of organization and attendance. I'm excited about the possibilities for this group. One concern I have is the sense of hostility and disrespect towards theists. This is a stereotype of atheists that I would like to change. I think we can stand firmly for our identity as "without god" and not get roped into being "against god". I am not at war with anyone or any religion. I would just like to preserve the freedom to be atheist and to see atheists have some of the resources that religions provide (i.e. to cope with challenges/grief, a community, a forum to discuss ethics...) I suspect that other atheists feel this way, too, without hostility or disrespect to theists.

I really like this group and would like to be more involved. I have a proximity issue, however, so I tend to only attended a few really big events that I can "make a day of it". I would like very much to connect more with members in the San Jose area and maybe get a carpool going for events and meetings, so feel free to send me a message (anyone really - not just SJ folks!) :)

Bay Area Atheists rock! I left out all those other monikers because thats too many words. Im an atheist, and so are you. Stop pussy footing around. There is no god, there never was, and so we are all A-theists by default. Have a nice day!

I'm enjoying it now and looking forward to seeing what the members decide to do with it. Hopefully we can set up different kinds of atheist meetings--1) some very casual socials, 2) some political/anti-religious/gung ho scientism meetings, and 3) some meetings intensely focussed on developing ideas for new mentally holistic alternatives to religion (focussed on critical thinking but NOT on science). In this way the various reasons people come to such a group could be dealt with directly. Trying to accommodate all the above aspects in only one type of meeting leads to frustration and virtually wasted time, in my opinion, unless your hopes are pretty meager to begin with.

maybe next time we can have some time for open discussion ..sometimes some people are too shy to just talk so they need kinda a little push haha but overall a great meeting! cant wait for the next one!
