This month East Bay Atheists features highlights from the Reason Rally DVD set, along with comments from several local activists who attended the historic event, the largest atheist gathering in history. Despite horrible weather nearly 30,000 atheists crowded the National Mall last March to hear speakers like Richard Dawkins and James Randi. All of the major secular groups sponsored the rally, and their leaders spoke. The event was a major technical and organizational masterpiece. Huge high quality screens and a superb sound system allowed even those at the back of the crowd to miss nothing. Although the rain at times hit some of the speakers, they were so excited that it didn't seem to phase them. The crowd was equally energized. but far more wet.
We will view some of the major speakers. A slideshow will allow you to get a sense of what it was like to be there.
Larry Hicok, the California State Director of American Atheists and Coordinator of EBA, will relate his experience and lead a discussion afterwards. Dave Kong, former State Director and AA Board Member, will give his impressions. They will be joined by Ski Grabowski, former Coordinator of EBA, and Corey Limbach, founder of EBA's Beer Not God.
The Reason Rally was the major atheist event of the decade. Find out more about it.
Afterwards we will go to dinner at King Dong Restaurant, 2429 Shattuck Ave. (near Haste) in Berkeley. Please join us.
