Promoting critical thinking is challenging everywhere, but it is even harder where there are deeply rooted superstitions, widespread denial of science, and political pressures on freedom of speech. Dr. Isil Arican will explore the growing skeptical movement and challenges of being a Turkish Skeptic.

Dr. Arican, MD graduated from Ege University School of Medicine in Turkey and earned a MS in Healthcare Administration at CSU Eastbay. She founded Yalansavar, a well-known Turkish skeptical website. She contributes to a popular science webzine, Acik Bilim, as an author and editor. Dr. Arican also volunteers at TED Talks as a translator.

La Peña, 3105 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, is a 6-minute walk from the Ashby BART station.

Bay Area Skeptics meetings are FREE of charge, and all are welcome to attend. We "pass the hat" at the end of our SkepTalks to "show some love" to the Cafe who operate as a non-profit and allow us to use the space without charge, but donations are purely voluntary.
