How do you know what an authentic dish should taste like, and from what geographical location(s) have you lived?

I have lived on The West Coast only. I assume the dishes I prepared were mostly authentic because I learned them from people from those countries,

How long have you resided in the San Francisco Bay Area, and for what purpose?

My whole life because it is such a wonderful place to live.
