Backpack in the gold country along the South Yuba Trail for 3 days.
This trail is fairly level and follows the Yuba River behind Nevada City.
Because this is at lower elevation, the weather is warmer, yet there is plenty of shade along the trail.
This is a good trip if you like refreshing swims, less people, and don't mind primitive locations.
I did this trip the same week last summer and it was great!
Hike in is 8 miles on Saturday, and provides for a couple stops along the river for swimming.
Day 2 involves a hike up-canyon through Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park for another 8 miles.
Hike out on Mon along the river is then only 4 miles, with another swim opportunity at the end.
The camp sites are primitive and limited, so the group will need to be small.
I'm leaving Walnut Creek at 8am on Saturday, and could take 1-2 others in my Durango.
It's a 3-hour drive from WC to get to the trailhead beyond Edwards Crossing.
