Bike Trip to Undiscovered Southern Italy - an epic adventure!

Hey friends! Come and join the party this year! Last year's bike trip through undiscovered Southern Italy (Puglia!) was amazing and this year proves to be even more so. People have said this trip was the adventure of a lifetime - and it is always the highlight of my year. Can't wait!

A 9-day biking journey along the sun-drenched coast of Italy.

We travel through Puglia, the "heel" of the Italian boot, which is somehow…magical. It's sun-drenched seas and silvery olive orchards whisper (at least to me!) about its ancient past--about the Turkish conquerors that sailed across that sea, about the Greek fugitive monks who settled here millennia ago and taught olive oil production, about the Celts who mysteriously erected stone tables throughout the region. Their folk music is vibrant - it was born as a medicine for hysterical women sent into fits by a bite from a tarantula. Their food is farm-fresh (or wild), gathered daily by Moms & grandmas in the villages.

Puglia is an AMAZING place to visit - basically - because nobody goes here.

And lucky for us, friends are expecting us! We'll dine with winemaker; party with an olive-farmer; learn to cook with his mother; find lively folk music in piazzas; Baroque churches in villages; enjoy cocktails on the beach; and, basically, have a really good time!

The Biking: Easy-Moderate. Relaxed pace. 30-45 miles a day on quality Italian Bottecchia city & touring bikes.

Most rides are on paved road, though some days we'll take long stretches of dirt or rocky road to see a particular site or landscape. We ride at a relaxed pace and sometimes split into groups to allow the faster riders to ride fast and the slower riders to go slow.

Route follows the Adriatic cliffs east of Lecce; passes through miles ancient olive orchards; then heads inland toward rolling vineyards, dotted with whitewashed villages.

Dates:  June 20-28, 2014 and September 6-14, 2014

Price: $2445  FYI This is by far the most inexpensive, high quality, luggage-supported bike trip you'll find out there!

Includes: 8 nights lodging in family-run Bed & Breakfasts, farm guesthouses and characteristic apartments; bicycles & equipment; luggage transport; a cooking class; wine tasting; cheesemaking & tasting; guided city tours; motorboat trip to Adriatic sea caves; other fun activities; breakfasts & seven dinners/big hearty Italian lunches.
