This is an all day event. It's not recommended making other plans after this event. You will be tired.
All participants will be required to provide a signed copy of the liability waiver found under the >More tab above and will be asked to provide the $1 membership dues at the same time in order to participate in this event.
All participants must also email the organizer with their contact info to confirm their spot. The organizer will reply with his contact info should you need to contact him. This is necessary in case any changes occur which requires the organizer to contact you the day of the event and to confirm you are on your way.
Please make sure to arrive at meeting place on time so that you don't inconvenience the group and to facilitate getting to and from the caves in a timely manner without having to rush.
Please feel free to email the organizer for this event with any questions or post your questions below.
If you need any gear please let the meetup organizer know ASAP.
We will explore two caves. The first has larger rooms and requires minimal crawling on hand and knees. The main cave requires a great deal of crawling from room to room to explore features such as the 'corkscrew', 'the crypt', 'the birth canal', 'hall of faces', 'the root' and 'the roof' as well as a few additional areas as time permits, depending on how fast the group is. There are many paths to get to the bottom of the main cave. We will be taking the easiest way.
Note: if you are afraid of the dark, dont like getting dirty or are claustrophobic then you might want to sit this one out. If not, then be prepared for an adventure.
Also, the main cave is size dependent. you wear a size XXL or larger shirt or are taller than 6'4" please contact the organizer.

You can wear whatever jacket you want to and from the caves, but we will leave any extra gear, packs, water, etc outside of the cave in our plastic garbage bags in case it rains or is raining.
Note: this trip will not be cancelled because of rain, but if the weather is nice we can choose to do something else outdoors instead of going underground.
Gear for in the caves:
Helmet (I have 3 extra I can loan out)
Headlamp (extra headlamp recommended). I might have a couple of extras I can loan out.
Knee AND elbow pads. I have many extras I can rent out if needed. This can be purchased at most sporting goods stores or between $8 and $16 per pair.
Stiff sole hiking boots preferred, but most closed toe shoes should work.
Clothes that you can get dirty (and u will)
- Long sleeve t-shirt for underneath (tuck in for going feet first)
- short sleeve t-shirt over that (leave tucked out for going head first)
- Pants that are rugged and dont fall down without a belt (they will and belts snag, but can b used if you insist)
Ladies- midriffs not recommended, skin on cold rock elicits random screams which attracts cave trolls. Most women prefer tights instead of pants since they move freely, but wear two pair or at least a short pair as well for added ruggedness
I have worn everything from shorts, to sweats, to jeans to thin hiking pants. All work, but I prefer hiking pants though they are not as rugged. Shorts are NOT recommended.
Ladies w long hair will want to braid it or put it in a pigtail. If its real long might b best to put under a thin sock hat or bandanna.
No other gear including jewelry or watches should b worn. It will get scratched up. I will carry a couple extra headlamps and a camera for pictures. Everybody is welcome to borrow the camera to take pictures.
Gear for after we return from the caves:
Rain jacket if there is a chance of rain.
Plastic garbage bag for dirty clothes
Complete change of clothes including shoes
Remember to review this list again before the trip so that you don't forget anything.
