Re: [BayAreaFilmSociety] Hollywood Before the Code

I would be interested in setting up a meetup for Sunday for The Cheat at 6:20 and the Bitter Tea of General Yen at 8:00 and arranging to meet somewhere earlier for dinner. I am also interested in setting up a meetup for the Thursday program.

I have one Meetup for our group scheduled for this program on March 7 (

In 1930, then-President of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, future chairman of the Republican National Committee, and moral tyrant par excellence Will Hays announced the adoption of a Motion Picture Production Code to combat the perceived moral turpitude of Hollywood. "The Code" was enforced until 1968, barring or highly restricting everything from nudity and suggestive dancing to portrayals of interracial or homosexual relationships for almost 40 years. The Roxie invites you to glimpse Hollywood before the code, when naked ladies and lustful revenge were par for the course and cinema pushed the envelope with glee.

It's been nearly fifteen years since the last great Hollywood Pre-Code Festival at the Roxie Theater but on Friday, March 2 — and for a full solid week — the Roxie is proud to announce its exciting return to blatantly profane pre-code motion picture entertainment — FOURTEEN great films… SEVEN sensational DOUBLE FEATURES — for thrill-seeking and sophisticated San Francisco Bay Area movie-goers!!
