Peaceful change of power at the Homebrew HTM Club

A former member
Hello all members of the Homebrew HTM Club (as I prefer calling it),

I am Greg Slater. I have been 'interim organizer' for the past month simply due to the fact that I paid the last month's Meetup bills. I am writing this mail to inform everyone that David Weir has agreed to take on the organizer position. I expect that he will send out a mail to everyone in the near future. In the mean time I'll just say a couple things.

We had another meeting. This time at the TechShop in San Mateo. It is a much better place to meet than the bar but they will only put us up for three meetings before we either come up with some memberships for them, we pay them a fee each time, or they kick us out. So, we either come up with a new free location in the next month or so, or perhaps impose a minimum dues on the group (which might just kill it).

The meeting was an organizational one, so it wasn't big on HTM discussions, but in future we agreed that the only thing that will make a going concern outta this group is if we start getting actually HTM contributions from members. We agreed to try to have some one talk about an actual HTM they wrote (either success or failure) every meeting. David has agreed to give the first presentation at the next meeting. So the next meeting will be the first one in the history of this group that will actually have a technical discussion of HTMs. That must happen every meeting if this group is to mean anything at all (at least I feel). Ultimately it would be good to have a group HTM project if we can swing it.

I wrote up a draft 'minutes' to the last meeting which I sent off to David and the attendees. David will revise and distribute (I think). If not, I'll send my version to the entire group.

Let's use this freaking club to kick our asses into actually writing HTMs. Anyway, that's what I say. If we could have something to contribute to the Numenta Workshop that would be great - but time is short for that and maybe hard.

Anyway, we'll see what happens with this group. It depends on generating content.

BTW, I really hate the Meetup venue. I think we can do better. The other organizers are ok with it, but I find the interface cumbersome, inefficient, and bloated, and not easily customizable, but it could be that I am an idiot.

more later,

- greg
