Columbus Day Weekend ride to the largest telescope in Texas, 4th in the world, and see wonderous sights. Along the way we may stop in at the Gage Hotel and see the sacred White Buffalo, ride the River Road along the Rio Grande, visit the Chisos Basin, have some pie in Utopia, and maybe check out El Mercado in San Antonio. The plan is to leave Houston Saturday the 12th early thirty in order to arrive in Alpine by 6pm. Two nights in Alpine then on to Uvalde for one night, returning to Houston Tuesday the 15th. As usual there is more to do than can be done but we always leave room for the unexpected. Hotels are the Maverick in Alpine and The Quality Inn in Uvalde. This is a hard 600 mile ride the first day and one stretch is 120 miles between gas stops.  Early morning starts will be the norm in order to cover the planned 1700 miles.

Great riding companions, spectacular views, challenging roads, and the weather gods smiled. Thanks Denise for all the pictures.

This was a great trip with exceptional views. The weather treated us very well the whole time. Thanks Gene for putting it together and leading the way.

I think I saw more border patrol agents than rain drops. The Davis Mountains are spectacular.

Looks like a go for weather for the 1st 2 days. Looks like visiting the Chisos Basin is off...sounds like a motorcycle trip to me.
