The Evolution of Humanitarian Aid and Response

It seems every few months the global community is faced with another massive humanitarian crisis. Recently the world witnessed Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and the response effort continues with burgeoning conflicts in Syria, South Sudan and the Central African Republic. Even still, the earthquake in Haiti which devastated the country four years ago still remains fresh in the minds of the humanitarian community and everyday citizens.

With each old and new crisis demanding attention and resources, how can the international community best respond to the needs of those affected? Jessica Alexander has spent the past 13 years working in various capacities in humanitarian response across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. She will discuss how innovative technologies, new modes of operating and the shifting nature of disaster are shaping the landscape of humanitarian aid today and in the future.
