How did you hear about Julia

I have long had an interest in programming languages, and I probably heard about it from lambda-the-ultimate, and it stood out because few languages target scientific computing.

What do you hope to get out of this meetup?

I'm working with R currently and I'd like to know when Julia becomes a viable alternative to R and Matlab/Octave.

I'm a software engineer with a background in scientific computing. I'm interested in machine learning and big data.

What Brian R. is saying about this Meetup Group

Great. I'd like a Silicon Valley Julia meetup, as I'm not likely to go to SF for a meetup.
