Bay Area Sewists member Edina will bring her serger and offer tips on using one. If you've made anything with a serger, please bring it to this meetup so you can show your successes, problems, failures with the group. If you don't have much experience with a serger, want to brush up on your serging skills, or are thinking of getting one, this meetup is for you.

Potential topics of discussion:

• Identifying what's wrong with the stitch (looper 1 too loose, looper 2 too tight, etc.)

• Tips on how to keep your stitch line straight

• How to finish the stitch

• What you can do with a serger

Please note, Edina does not know how to thread a serger because her machine is self-threading. Other members attending this meetup may be able to answer your questions about using a serger.

You are welcome to bring your serger to show other people your machine and/or maybe get some of your own questions answered. So far 9 members have said they will be bringing their sergers.

The pattern drawing will be a new knit dress pattern the Davie Dress (http://www.sewaholicpatterns.com/davie-dress/) by Sewaholic (http://www.sewaholicpatterns.com/) (released 3/13) AND Sewaholic's popular Renfrew Top (http://www.sewaholicpatterns.com/renfrew-top-pdf-sewing-pattern/) - a versatile pattern for knit fabrics that has three necklines and three sleeve lengths!

The Davie Dress has a keyhole neckline and princess seams for a more fitted look. Sewaholic patterns are "proportioned for a pear-shaped figure: smaller bust and waist, larger hips."

We'll have a drawing or each pattern and Sewaholic will send the winner a PDF version. You can use a serger or a regular sewing machine with either of these patterns. Thank you Sewaholic for donating your great patterns!

Deets
Date: Saturday, April 18
Time: 1 pm to 3 pm (people are welcome to stay longer if someone will be responsible for turning off lights and letting Lacis know we are done)
Pattern drawing: 2 pm
Fee: $3 per person - to compensate Lacis for the use of their great classroom space. Please bring exact change to the meeting.
Location: Lacis, 2982 Adeline St., 2nd floor, Berkeley CA [not wheelchair accessible]

Parking: There is street parking but it is limited. On the weekend, there's a flea market happening all day at the Ashby BART parking lot so you likely won't find a spot there. You might be able to find parking on a residential side street but be sure to check the parking signs for time limits. You might consider parking at either MacArthur BART or even North Berkeley BART and then taking BART to the Ashby stop and walking to Lacis. It's less than one block from the Ashby stop.

****SPECIAL UPDATE!: All meetup attendees get a one-time 25% discount at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics (http://www.stonemountainfabric.com) (2518 Shattuck Ave. about 8 blocks from Lacis) on this meetup day! So be sure to stop by before or after the meetup. When you check out, please let them know you are a Bay Area Sewists member to get the discount. [We usually get a 20% discount.] Thank you Stonemountain & Daughter!!

Also, please note that it is free to join Bay Area Sewists, BUT if you want to attend a meetup, you need to pay our $5 annual membership fee. For just $5 a year, you can attend any number of meetups, most of which are free o attend. If you have not paid your dues yet, then you will be paying $8 to attend this meetup ($3 to Lacis, $5 to Bay Area Sewists).

Thank you!
