Bring your muslins, patterns, tape measures, pins, pencils, books on fitting - and we'll have a fitting session! If you've had successes (or failures!), please bring your muslins and the finished garments so you can share what you've learned. If you've done any FBAs (full bust adjustments), SBAs (small bust adjustments), shoulder, sway back, adjustments, etc. please share your experiences.
The idea is that we can help each other with our muslins, particularly in areas, such as the back, where you can really use another pair of hands.
Measuring: We can also help each other take accurate measurements. Wear something form-fitting (but NOT tight) if you want accurate measurements taken. For example a loose leotard or camisole and loose leggings. Wear comfortable shoes so your posture will reflect your usual stance.
Bring your favorite garments to get accurate length measurements that you can use for future garment making. For example, if you have a favorite cropped jacket, bring the jacket and we can measure the length from the neck to the bottom hem.
We will have space for sewing machines. It would be great if some people could let folks use their machine but it's not required. If you are bringing a machine, please let me know so we can make sure we have enough space.
Fitting can take a long time so I've booked the space for 4 hours. I'll be there for the first two hours and Ali will be there for the latter two. You don't need to be there for the entire time but we'll do introductions at the beginning and we'll do the pattern drawing at 2 pm.
The pattern drawing will be for the Flora Dress (http://byhandlondon.com/products/flora-dress) designed by the lovely ladies of By Hand London (http://byhandlondon.com/)! This beauty has two different necklines to choose from. Thank you By Hand London for donating your pretty pattern! They also sent us the Anna Dress, which will be giving away at a later meetup. :)
While you're there, don't forget to check out Lacis's retail store and all the lovely ribbon, lace, millinery supplies, and vintage notions on display.
NOTE: There will be a $5 fee for attendees to compensate Lacis for use of their great classroom space. You can pay the fee via PayPal to my account, which I will email to you. If you can't make it, you will be refunded your money as long as you cancel at least one day in advance.
Date: June 7
Time: 12 pm to 4 pm [clean-up 4 pm to 4:20 pm]
Pattern drawing: 2 pm
Location: Lacis, 2982 Adeline St., 2nd floor, Berkeley CA [not wheelchair accessible]
Parking: There is street parking but it is limited. On the weekend, there's a flea market happening all day at the Ashby BART parking lot so you likely won't find a spot there. You might be able to find parking on a residential side street but be sure to check the parking signs for time limits. You might consider parking at either MacArthur BART or even North Berkeley BART and then taking BART to the Ashby stop and walking to Lacis. It's less than one block from the Ashby stop.
***As always, all Bay Area Sewist meetup attendees get a 20% discount at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics (http://www.stonemountainfabric.com/) on meeting days! So stop by their great store (2518 Shattuck Ave.) before or after our meetup - let them know you are a Bay Area Sewist member and show them the email I'll be sending members the day before the meetup. You can show the email on your smartphone or a printout.
