Tired of sewing alone? Bring your sewing machines, WIPs (works in progress), patterns, and fabric and let's sew together! If you don't want to bring your machine, you can trace/cut your patterns or fabric, do some fitting or hand sewing.

You can also get your measurements done at this meetup. I'll have worksheets available so you can get numbers for everything from your high bust to your waist-to-ankle measurement.

Lacis can accommodate maybe a dozen machines in their second-floor classroom space, maybe more. When you RSVP, you'll be asked whether you will be bringing your sewing machine. The first dozen people who say Yes, will get priority. The rest of the space will be for cutting fabric, patterns, etc.

UPDATE: Anyone who wants to bring a machine can bring one. Space priority will be given to those who RSVP'd first and said they wanted to bring a machine.

SBCC Patterns (http://www.sbccpatterns.com/) - Skinny Bitch Curvy Chicks - will be sending us the Mimosa Blouse pattern (http://www.sbccpatterns.com/shop/sb309/) for our February meetup!

This company specializes in sewing patterns for petite and curvy women (check out the patterns here (http://www.sbccpatterns.com/product-category/shop-the-patterns/)). And if you're not petite - don't worry, Betsy, the designer of this line of sewing patterns, says the patterns can be easily modified for taller people. Sizes go from XXS to 3X. She has generously offered to send us TWO copies of this pattern - size XXS-L and size XL-3X. Thank you Betsy!

I first heard about SBCC (the name still makes me laugh) during Sewing Indie Month earlier this year. Christine Haynes (http://christinehaynes.blogspot.com/) made and blogged about adding a collar to SBCC's Tonic Tee (http://www.sbccpatterns.com/tonic-tee-collar-by-christine-haynes/). (You can get the Tonic Tee as a free PDF download here (http://www.sbccpatterns.com/shop/sb322-tonic-t-shirt/).)

Be sure to check out Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles (http://www.lacismuseum.org/) and the retail store (http://www.lacis.com/retail.html) where you'll find all kinds of lace, ribbons, embroidery and tapestry supplies, dozens of hand sewing needles, thimbles, millinery supplies, corset-making supplies, vintage patterns, and much more. Lacis's exhibit on Mongolian Paper Art (http://lacismuseum.org/exhibit/Paper%20Iron%20Passion/) will be on display starting in February so be sure to check it out ($1 admission fee for exhibit).

NOTE: There is a fee of $3 per person to compensate Lacis for the generous use of their space. To keep it simple, please bring $3 to the meetup - exact change greatly appreciated!

It is free to join Bay Area Sewists, BUT if you want to attend a meetup, you need to pay our $5 annual membership fee. For just $5 a year, you can attend any number of meetups, most of which are free to attend.

Deets

Time: 1 pm to 3 pm (option to stay until 4 or later)
Fee: $3 per person for Lacis [Please bring exact change!]

I'll bring some refreshments and you are welcome to bring some snacks to share!

Parking: There is metered street parking but it is limited. On the weekend, there's a flea market happening all day at the Ashby BART parking lot so you likely won't find a spot there. You might be able to find parking on a residential side street but be sure to check the parking signs for time limits. You might consider parking at either MacArthur BART or even North Berkeley BART and then taking BART to the Ashby stop and walking to Lacis. It's less than one block from the Ashby stop.

***As always, all Bay Area Sewist meetup attendees get a 20% discount at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics (http://www.stonemountainfabric.com/) on meeting days! So stop by their great store (2518 Shattuck Ave.) before or after our meetup - let them know you are a Bay Area Sewist member and show them the email I'll be sending members the day before the meetup. You can show the email on your smartphone or a printout.
